Great Snow Hunt Today, But Also A Terrible Find :punch:

Got up early today. Picked up my wife at the mechanics after dropping off her mini van so she could get the steering pump and a tie rod replaced on her FORD. Then....play time :thumbs I went and had a nice filling breakfast and then headed to the hill. My weapon of trash reduction was my Garrett Snowpion Cold Stinger. I charged up the batteries last night and put a hot pac underneath the batteries on the outside of the control box, under the insulated camo cover.

My first find was a double coiner....2 x dimes (1US/1 Can.) Not bad, then another couple of dollars worth of coins showed up in the next half hour.

But then it happened :( ..... just daydreaming, as I do most of the time anyways, I looked down, and there it was. A most ugly looking snow carpet which kids slide down hills with, and it had a large logo of the "CALGARY FLAMES." Now finding such a large logo on one of Edmonton's finest snow hills, a hockey team from Calgary, is comparable to swearing in church. Whoever left that carpet slide in Edmonton should go to jail for a duration at least until hockey season is over, with no "GET OUT OF JAIL FREE" card. Edmonton is Oilers Hockey Team territory...plain and simple. Calgary Flames are just plain not welcome in Edmonton.

I left this hill disappointed with such a lousy find, headed to another snow hill, and was rewarded with just under 5 bucks. Another great day in the tundra! ;)

Lots of coins in that hunt.
Someone wanted to aggravate you by planting that Calgary Flames logo, trying to keep you away from those location.

That is the most disgusting thing they could pull on you John, its like dumping a Senators logo in my territory. Go Leafs Go.HH Ken

But we dont miss them much...more of a football/baseball/basketball town...Ha and Nascar.

Good post
Alan

Good show John! I may have to go out and brave the cold this weekend, we've got the bomber car Ice races here, so maybe I can find something!! Best thing is if it gets lost now as soon as it melts it's in the water!

I grew up in Kitchener and moved out to Edmonton about 25 years ago. I have been to Trenton in the past. I only started metal detecting out here about 15 years ago, buying my first metal detector as a reward for quitting smoking.

I bet you are glad now that you quit smoking as it has really paid off for you, besides you have good health as an added bargain . I quit in 55.> I did a 23 year stint in the RCAF then retired here in Trenton and got into detecting in 74. HH Ken

Yip. I got out a week or two ago here in Saskatchewan. Picked up 5-6 bucks in clad. It was -2 Celsius I think and my freshly charged Duracell's lasted about an hour until they crapped out from the cold. It was nice to swing the little ACE again. I prefer relics and older coins but clad can still be fun now and then.

Digging for clad in the winter keeps your muscles and endurance in check. I have over $30.00 in clad so far this year. To me, relics, silver coins, clad and rings are all part of the hobby. I like them all. :)

I will experiment with digging foil signals this (my second) season coming up. I passed on 95% of the "scruffy" signals last year and only got one gold ring. I found some great old silver and plenty of very interesting relics, but realised that I was limiting myself. Kind of hard for me to have patience after the tenth pull tab though.
