Greetings. Been lurking here for a few months now. I've been detecting here in Michigan for several years and last year got my GTAx550 and love it. Hunt mostly coins, abandoned homestead sites from about 1880-1930's for relics and hit some beaches. Have picked up several good tips here and wanted to say "hi" and thanks to all.

I've been at this for several years and found there's always something more to learn. Have picked up some good tips here for the 550.

Welcome .It is as you've noticed a great sight,Some really good people here and an unlimited source of information. If you can't find an answer in previous threads you can always ask .HH

That 550 is a great machine. Tell us about some of your finds you have found in the past. Pics are especially welcome. :)

Found a nice silver ring with the 550 this year. Need to work with my camera more to get a nice pic of it. One of my favorite finds this year was from a farm site from the 1920's - a horse shoe with the nails still in it. Also got a bag seal from the Michigan Central Railroad and over 500 coins.

Welcome....What part of Michigan are you from?? Myself>>> North of Flint. I see your profile says Mid-MI. We may hitting some of the same areas. Although I see very few signs of anyone detecting.

Flash - I'm in Roscommon County. Tons of old farms and homesteads in the area. We have a problem around here with one person that doesn't fill holes, but they miss a lot of things. In one of his diggings I found a nice old button. People like that can ruin things for the rest of us, so I hope we come across him one day.
What areas do you hit?

Well I usually stay in the Flint area. Don't go far as you are north, or very seldom. There are many small towns and cities around Flint that me and a friend detect. Have hit a few schools in bay city every now and then also.

There are some dips out there that just dont care about the mess they leave. I dont understand it. I have said something to a person detecting, about this, that I did not know. If you see him, words need to be said but be carefull for even in the nicest way, these are fighting words to some.lol You may have to teach this person how to fall down, if you know what I mean.
