Ground Noise or EMI?

New member
Where I detect in the UK I very seldom if ever suffer ground noise/interference. My problem with the threshold being unstable is linked to EMI. I just wondered how it is for others who are detecting for coins and artefacts?

How do you 'Tune' - Auto or Manual?

For me, I Auto Tune and then fine tune manually.
I manually tune. It's quicker and I can find the quietest channel manually. Also, if you are hearing a noisy threshold, raise and lower your coil to the ground, mic the noise is when you are moving the coil to and from the ground then it's ground noise and you need to ground balance. If you hold the coil a few inches off the ground and perfectly still and you hear noise them it is emi. Try tuning to a different channel, and adjusting your stabilizer and RX gain to quiet down the noise.
