Just got the GT a couple of months ago and using the hip mount. I use wireless earphones but already getting tired of being tethered to my side. So...I was wondering how much a stock GT with 10" coil weighs. I know the weight won't be much of a variable when I'd get used to it. Just wondering. I also have Ron's meter on it. Critterhunter I believe you state your machine is 1.5 lbs. lighter. Is that with the control box on the shaft?

GT weight numbers

Yep, with the control box AND the Minelab Digisearch meter on my custom shaft when I weighed it back then. Dropped almost a pound and a half, and that was I think with the 15x12 still on it I think. Can't remember, but if you got to the link provided in the Accesseries sticky to the Lightweight Sovereign Custom Build thread, you'll dig up all those old details about the stock GT weight with 10" Tornado versus my light weight mod, and even various weight savings from replacing various things. For instance, the stock GT arm cup weighs have a pound! I put a Whites one on my custom shaft. Much lighter and cheap.
Man, loving the stickys. Even for a guy like me who likes to type it saves a lot of hassle. Just have to say "see such and such sticky"...
Information at your fingertips, so I'm glad Ron put them all up. This forum now has more sticky info for various aspects of the Excal and Sovereign then any forum I've seen anywhere on the net for any machine.
Also, if you want to stay stock...You can buy a small extension pole that goes into the back of the shaft and the control box then mounts back there behind your elbow for killer effortless balance. Some Excal guys do the same thing, and for less drag of the pod not being in the water at certain depths. Look in the Sovereign accesseries sticky for a pic and Findmall sponsors who carry it, like I think Kellyco and Indian Nation Detectors probably do. Also, some guys then flip the control box backwards then. Now your controls for pin point and such are real easy to reach right by your arm. Easier then in the stock location with the box not flipped backwards even. Some like it just for that.
