My 1250 air test well but seems to have trouble picking up anything over 4". I have even tried the zero discrimination to see if I could pick up any thing deeper than 4". I use the 8.5" Cross Fire II coil. I live in East Texas where there is red clay and lots of iron ore. Has anyone else had this problem or do I need to send it back to Garrett for a tune up? Thanks, Terry
 
yea thats about what my 1250 air tests at in z-d mode. i get about 4-6" with an air test . can they tune them up? i dont know anything about the workings really. my 2500 was finding things my 1250 missed the other day including silver dimes at 5-6"
 
I get targets a 4"+ with a 4" coil on my 1250 and have dug quarters at 7" with the new 7x10 ellitical coil(belltone and correct ID). Did get about 6" with old round coil(belltone and correct ID). We have black dirt around here, not any mineralization, though. I never have air tested them.
 
there may not be anything deeper than 4" in the spots your at. My older GTA 1000 picks up fine in Colorado and we have a fair amount of mineralization. I have the 10 x 14 DD coil which is made for the tuff ground. I use the 4 ,8 and 12 inch coils too.
 
Terry, it could be the soil...my test garden shows a big difference between air tests and soil tests. That double D coil might just solve your problem. Good luck.
 
might be the site you are at. I jst use 4 inch coil all the time and no trouble with the depth.
 
There may not be anything any deeper than that where you are hunting. Some red clay is tough to detect in and you may have to try a DD coil. How high are you running your sensitivity? If you run it high jack it back down to about 6.5 and try that for a spell.
Try hunting in a bark chip playground and see what kind of depth you get. It's a good place to check out your detector.
