GTAX 550 better than Ace 250??

I see allot of great reviews on the Ace 250, and here allot about the 1350, and 2500's. What I don't see is very much talk about the gtax 550. Is there a reason not many people own them? For twice the price of a ace 250, are they that much of a improvement?

Good question shedncoin,I've been wondering the same thing for a while now..I'm sure someone will come along

shedncoin, I think it will be hard for most any detector to beat the Ace 250. Mine is on fire right now. Find after find after find. I to would like to know about the 550. If it is anything like the 250 I would take one. I love my 250 and will not part with it.

The only big differences I see is the 550 has the automatic ground balance, an adjustable threshold, and 7 kHz instead of 6.5 . Does that add up to more, and deeper finds? Just like to hear from one person who has swung both.

The 550 also has 24 Segment notch discrimination and the ACE has 12. The 550 has an adjustable threshold and the ACE does not and the 550 has a last mode operation while the ACE does not. The 550 also has depth with pinpoint while the Ace has depth from motion. The 550 is hip mountable while the ACE is not. I hope this helps.:garrett:

Thanks Oakman, didn't no the Ace gave depth in motion only. That would be another good feature of the 550.

Bill, read your article on the 550. Very well done, allot of helpful information there. I would have to make the conclusion that the 550 would be worth the extra money given all the extra features.
Thanks again for the info,
John

John, actually the 1350 has Automatic ground balancing with automatic ground tracking.:garrett:

Yeah it does have the edge on features and is a great goodie getter. It's been around so long ( like the Scorpion ) that people tend to overlook it. A lot of folks own them and are quite contented with them.

I've had my 550 for a little over a year and am very satisfied with it. It's able to notch out pull-tabs without losing good finds and has shown very good depth. I like the 24 point scale. I haven't been able to compare it to a 250 though. Here in Michigan I haven't had to deal with mineralization either. Overall quite happy with it.
