Heya folks. I'm new to this board and from Ontario, Canada. I'm pretty new to metal detecting. It's been years since I've owned one, and that was only a radio shack cheapie. Anyhow, I just purchased a GTAx-550 today. I should get it this week sometime. I can't wait. Anyone here use one of these?? Any advice on using this detector? Or comments on this detector? I wouldn't mind some good find stories with this detector as well. I could use the confidence booster! Hopefully I'll be around a lot more with photos of finds

You got yourself a nice little coinshooter there!! You wont be disappointed that you bought it, for sure. Did you get the 7 x 10 coil with it? One sweet little coil!! There are some posts on here from John-Edmonton on how your Canadian coins ring up on the Garretts. I just hope he's left you some. You won't believe how easy the Garretts are to use and how many goodies you'll get once you get familiar with it. Just watch the video and read the manual and then get out there and start harvesting!!!

Hi John. Thanks for the e-mail and the info. Is there no means to search topics on this forum?? I'm new *hah* I didn't get an extra coil. I believe it comes with an 8" or 8.5" crossfire or something like that. I'm not sure what you mean by 7x10!? or is that 7 or 10"? I am located in Kingston, Ontario...right across from NY. Hopefully John from Edmonton hasn't made his way all the way down here to Ontario and dug up all the goodies *hahah*

Yep, the new ones are shipping with the 7" x 10" elliptical coil, but you'll do great with the 8" round coil. The 7x10 is a bit more stable and allows you to run with the Sensitivity a little more wide open without falsing, as well as being able to cover a little more ground in a little less time. I forget just now how to search for posts for a specific topic, but I know you can.

Use the Search feature at the top of the post listings. You can search by keywords, ie: 550

Hey John. Thanks for the reply and the info. Yes, I'm an idiot. I figured out the search thing after I posted my question. I guess the "search" button does it everytime. *hahah* So the 2004 GTAx-550 comes with the 7x10 only? I would assume this means that the dealer is selling me a 2003 model? Interesting.

Hi Wess,
I have had my 550 for 3 weeks and am having a blast with it. I'm sure you will enjoy yours. Happy hunting, Bill (SoCal)

Okay, made a call and I am indeed getting the 7x10 coil. Hope it's better *hahah* I'll need all the help I can get!

I have a field test on that one at Lost Treasure.
Bill

I really like mine on my 1250, wish I could get an imaging one for my 2500, but alas, they don't make one, imaging or non imaging.

Hi Bill. I actually read your field test on the GTAx-550 prior to my decision to purchasing one. It was one of the factors I used to make my decision. So now you're responsible if I don't get good results from this machine!!!

I'll see that you get good results.
