What are your thoughts on picking this up used for $75 for my wife to try out? I have tested it and it seems to work great. Not going to buy her a new detector if she doesn't enjoy it. Will it work well enough or miss too much stuff?

The 550 was my first Garrett. I still have it and when someone wants to try detecting that's the one they use. Found tons of coins and relics with it. Great little machine and I usually keep my sniper coil on it for tight areas and working under bleachers at ball fields.

Garrett makes very good detectors and they stand behind them.
You cant beat their service ... if they cant fix your old Garrett ... they offer full retail price discount toward a new detector.
That is one of the reasons the old Garrett detectors hold their value.
They still sell the GTI 2500

I sharpened my teeth on the GTA Ultra 500. Found many rings and coins. The GTAX 550 is a fun detector to use, and a great coin shooter.
