GTI 2500 as a coin shooter

Hi everyone, sorry Chris I've had a lot of thunder going on today after that I went out on a hunt..
Let me state I will only compare the DFX & GTI 2500 as those are the only ones I got experience with.

I agree the depth is easy to get, unlike a very programmable detector like the DFX. But as I have stated depth is not everything, there are multible factors that make a good detector.

Interesting remark John, try learning over 100+ different coins it ain't easy to do but of course it can be done.
I for one don't want to have to learn so many combinations, readings etc when I can get all the info I need from a signagraph, which I find is easier to read then the notch system.
(Many coins in Sweden where/are made from copper and other high conductive metals)
There are to many combinations to learn all and I am to lazy to learn all to.

Also note that most of the coins I have found with the GTI where jumpy both old and new, only the modern 1 Krona is not jumpy.(copper & nickel alloy)

Hello Bill. Sorry but I can't agree even the slightest I think you need a machine to suit your needs.
In a trashy sites I would need to dig everything except iron, the nasty thing is I get iron anyways even straight normal nails. (some coins look identical to nails on the discrimination of the GTI)

I'll fill in more tomorrow if needed.:goodnight:

Oh common lads I was hoping for more of a discussion, or did you say all you had to say in the last couple of days?

Good hunting lads.:detecting:

Its like you said. Its all what you like. I like the GTI and it works well for me both coin shooting and relic hunting. It works well on the U.S. coins. The 9.5 imaging coil is kinda large for coin shooting in trashy areas but it will clean the coins from the ground. I can pick out the tougher deeper coins other detectors cant. I went to a unhunted small tot park the other day and hunted 4 small bark chip lots. Over 100 pennies 1 dollar coin. seven quarters 20+ dimes 16 nickels and 6 pull tabs. I left about 4 zinc cents if you want to check.

Yup.

Happy Hunting!

Hi All: I am new to detecting. I bought my wife an ACE 150 for Christmas and she likes it because it is light weight and easy to use. I bought a GTI 2500 because I wanted more capability. I set up a test plot with various coins at different depths. I expected that the 2500 would be able to determine each coin and depth accurately and consistently. I was disappointed when this wasn't the case. I called Garrett and they told me that I had to wait until the coins were in the soil for some time. It's been several weeks and there hasn't been much change in performance.

Another thing that has confused me is signals that seem to come and go. They seem solid one minute and then just disappear. Maybe it is just a matter of lots of practice and getting to trust your detector.

Ah yes they mean until that oxides build up around the coins, this makes it easier for the machine to find them.

Freshly buried coins are harder to find, this is a known phenomena.

As for targets that come and go, could be false signals try to run sensitivity at about 7 to 8.

I find as a newbie some will have a bit to high expectations on the machines, this ain't no magic.
Try to remain skeptic about the hype the brands make also.

Try to put in vinegar on the coin(s), this could help it to oxidize faster.

What coins did you use?
At what depth?
Flat or on edge?

Have you tried true all metal mode?

Thanks for the reply. I used all denominations of US coins at various depths from 2 inches to 6 inches. The coins have been there for almost 6 weeks now. I guess I really believed all the hype in the Garrett advertisment. Bernie

That should be far enough between them indeed.
