GTI 2500 Tune Up ????

Pyrites Pete

New member
Has anyone sent there 2500 back to Garrett for a tune up ? Mine is 8 years old and it is missing coins, false sizing and depth. Our local dealer says that there is nothing to "tune up" and I should purchase a new 2500. It has not got the mineralization chip. but I don't feel that is required in the area that we detect in. I am using the 9" & 12.5" proformance coils. The wife's Ace250 kills it on the beach Any advice please. Pyrites Pete [in Oz]

Send it in....wont hurt a bit. And they might do tune up/repairs for free, ya never know.

Hi, I suggest you to send it in, there WILL be a charge for servicing, but you will have it upgraded (mineralization chip) and maybe the progam chip replaced with a more recent version. I bought mine (2500) last nov. 2007 but the chip is dated 2001. Since I live in SouthAmerica it is a mess for me to send it in. Will wait for a failure to have it upgraded.

The dealer is just trying to snooker you and peddle you a new detector. Send it in ( especially if it never performed like that before ) as they do get a little out of whack occasionally and things need to be recalibrated and such. Garrett will send it back like new. If you want or need the mineral chip it's about forty bucks as I recall. One or more of your coils may be a little flaky also. Contact Melinda at Melinda.Harper@garrett.com and see what all you should send in.
