GTI 2500 Two Tone / Bi Level ??

Hi Folks
With all the 2500 / Exp. II chat I thought I would ask a question about the 2500 I have not seen (probally just not looking) and that is the Bi Level Sound system. Do any of you guys use it or prefer it ?? I have had the machine about 2 years and just started using it but Im not sure about it. It seems to me that you can pass over a piece of iron and instead of gong you get a beltone at times unless you are dead center then you get your gong. Being of the curious nature by getting both sounds on one piece depending on where you place your coil I usually do the dog trick and dig. Nearly always is junk iron. Wonder if others have any feedback on this feature of the machine?? Oh I also notice it doesn't gong but beeps on some iron pieces.

I use the bi level (actually 3 tone including belltone)all of the time. It's great for relic hunting, as the lower tones are mosrly iron, the middle require further investigation (size, depth, conductivity etc.) and the belltone, either a coin or pop can, again easily solved woth sizing. I can't imagine not hunting without those tones, as I would miss all that useful information.

I like the tones as they can also tell you if it is a older penny or a newer one....On mine anything from 1982 and older rings in with the high bell tone but the newer ones have the lower tone. But I dig them all anyways.

Ok now with the three tones going and you get a belltone on the lead and rear of the coil the 10 X 14 (not using image coil) but in the dead center or closer to the center you get the deep iron gong. Now I have two sounds do you go for the the one in the middle or edges, I would suspect edges but wonder what others think. Assuming the coil is not truely reading 100% til it is over the center of the object. Ya I get the beep or the regular sound on new pennys and a belltone on the older ones also even tho the cursor is at the same place at least every time I have checked it. A funny thing mine does is it will ring a half dollar when there are two quaters; no matter how close they are stacked or what position, now thats a smart machine!

4 quarters will read a dollar(not kidding) it sounds like you are sweeping really really slow when your going over these targets to get a reading. Is this true?

I have had two quarters stuck together that read as fifty cents. Garretts know how to count.

No not going real slow just normal pace I dont move real slow unless i am in a particularly junky area where i need to seperate the sounds better. With the DD coil when I pass over say with the tip of the coil I get a bell tone then advance the coil and get a gong and then advance some more and it is a bell tone again, Like its telling you it is junk iron on the dead center of the coil but there is enough conductivity to make it bell tone on the edges. It has always on just two tones , belltone and regular, beeped when you hit a coin on the edges and then when you get centered it will bell tone. I assume the iron problem is about the same, dead center is where its accurate but Im one of those curious cats that curiousity killed the cat so I usually dig.
Ya I get two quaters stuck together often which I think is wierd but it usually tells me its a half dollar but I have not got 4 quarters yet but I did get a hole pile of coins once like 3 quarters and nickels and dimes and they rang up way high.

Yeah the DD coil has no coil in the winding for pinpointing so it detects as deep at either end as it does anywhere else and unless a target is real deep you pinpoint off the center tip of the coil for most targets.

Ok I got to back up and re describe the problem. I evidently have been typing to slow and confusing myself. Uncle Willy I got the pinpointing figured out I sometimes do the tip thing or sometimes X the target, both work well I think I have more confidence in my coil X ing the target but here is the problem.
When I go across a target (searching not in pinpoint mode) and first hit it with the tip of the coil and overlaping the coil swings the first swing across the tip will belltone and as it gets to the center of the coil it will gong in bilevel sound like iron then as advance farther it goes back to belltone making the center of the coil (10 X 14 ) the hot spot or accurate spot, telling me its trash iron. This is when i swing over the target overlaping and hitting it about 3 times before I pass it over. With a round coil I could see this but a DD I would think it should gong the Iron sound all the way through?? I am trying to figure a way not to dig Iron when hunting around old houses and foundations and such. I know if it sounds good I dig anyhow but if its just junk I d like to figure out these sounds.
It seems to me it is the opsite as what I have with coin hunting where with the 5 X 10 coil I use mostly If i can make it bell tone (assuming it is notched right) I know its likely a coin even tho it will just bing at the ends of the coil and only belltones at the center by taking a few more discriminating sweeps over the target. I think the iron is just the opsite??
Enough rambling I have typed so much I have confused myself I gotta go dig something up to relieve the tension.

Now you have me confused. Remember the DD is lousy at discrimination and loves junk and bottlecaps. Also since the signal angles back slightly towards center the deeper the target is - not all targets will pinpoint at the tip or give the correct signal if the detecting field is just catching the edge of the target.

With the DD I just resign myself to digging everything. Since there is no receiver wound into this coil for pinpointing you are pinpointing with the full length of the coil and it detects nearly as deep at either end as it does anywhere else. It just doesn't react like a concentric.

Yes with the DD's I have dug several 50 cent and 1.00 bottle caps. But it also said 50 cents twice that they were and as they say that makes it WORTH IT!
