You long timers here at findmalls Garrett Forum will know of my on again, off again relationship with the GTP 1350. Recently, I got another one, my third, and took it out today. Suffice it to say I've been using instruments from Fisher and Whites most recently, so there was certainly some re-aquainting going on. Here are a few things I re-learned.
1. Sensitivity
Holy Crap did I forget about this! When I first got going. I didn't adjust the SENS control from factory setting. I pretty sure, now, that isn't the thing for a trashy park like I visited today. Eventually, I realized my mistake and took it down to about 6.5. The detector got more well mannered, then, with far fewer spurious hits on small bitsies. I'm convinced that the factory setting is only a good idea in clear areas where there are few targets or in the deep sand.
Make a mental note: the 1350 is sensitive and in trashy sites with little chance of something deep - turn it down!
2. Separation
Not bad, but not stupendous. The larger coil with its wide detecting bubble responds widely, making it difficult to discern multiple targets when they are close together. One trick that worked was to turn that sensitivity down... a recurring theme with this detector. This dampens it's willingness to see anything and everything near the coil. One I got this figured out, I found the separation was acceptable, if still broad.
We've made much lately here at F-G about cold rings and trash targets, most notably foil and pull tabs. It is apparent that most of the gold rings and other gold items fall right in the foil-through-pulltab range.
3. Foil and pulltabs
While searching today, I noticed the tendency of both foil and tabs to hit "weakly." This is hard to define and it may just be wishful thinking, but it appeared that these trash items could be determined by this trait. By comparison, coins hit hard - wham! But these trash items dont hit the same way, and are kinda wimpy. This was more notable as you raise the coil and yet again, reduced the sensitivity.
I'm not convinced yet that this is reliable, but it will bears investigation.

have you try-ed the sizing out on gold rings yet if yes does the sizing lock on one size of move around ???.
