I will be going to Guatemala mid July for 10 days to work with a mission group my church supports. We will (most likely) be working with a portable medical clinic, moving town to town setting up and tearing down for the docs and dentists. We will also help to provide education assitance in basic hygine. Things could change because because of the vocano Pacaya which is near to Guatemala city and the international airport. I have also heard that there have also been land slides because of rain. So there is a very real possibility that we will be there doing a different type of work for the Guatemalan people.

Many folks wonder why Guatemala? The need is huge and that is where The Lord draws my heart. They are the 10th poorest nation in the western hemisphear. Many of the people will recieve no medical care but for this in a years time. That is as true for a child with scabies or lice as it is for a pregnant lady.

There is an alternate form of "medical care" if one is inclined to go to the witch doctors. Serious too, witch doctors, who practice some ritualistic medical voodoo left over from the old Mayan ways. Not Safe. I saw an office of one of them when we were there in 2006, I walked inside the lobby to look but no one was in that room, kinda wierd though. Real bad feel though.

Please Pray:
Our preperations
Our saftey
That the rest of our financial support comes in
We are open to Gods voice
We act as Christs hands
That Gods will be done

Thank You All

God Bless you for going on that Mission trip. I think everyone should go on a foreign mission trip at least once. If we can't go we should at least support foreign missionaries. You and the group will be in our prayers. Keep us updated on how it is going if you can.

Jeff,
I look forward to reading updates on your trip to Guatemala. I have always dreamed of going to Guatemala and Colombia for missionary work! So cool....may GOD bless you richly for reaching out and helping others in need!!!!

DK you hit it SPOT ON. I think whether Christian or not every US citizen would get an incredible education by doing humanitarian work in a 3rd world or developing nation. The need is so vast. There is much work to do at home and in our own cities, but there is a system in place and many volenteers who give greatly of their time to a variety of orginazitionsand causes.

One great big benifit is how (much more) greatful you are when you come home. There is another more important benifit though, for me it comes in being closer with Christ during the preperations. This whole process leads me closer to God and if that was the only good that came from missions then it would be more than enough.

One thing that supprised me most in 2006, was that afterwords, I discovered that the poverty on the TV now has a face. That was huge. The 2 room cinderblock or mud shack with a tin roof, I have met and worked with those people. They are just like you and I. They live and bleed, work and go home. have wives and loved ones. They hold hands and sneak away for a kiss, relax in a hamok. The biggest difference between them and us is the latidude in which we were born.

We truly are a blesses nation. I hope it lasts.

Here is a link to the Mission groupe we work with. They have only been under this name for 1.5 yr but use to be a part of America Latina.

When I was attending Butler Hill Baptist Church many years ago, one of the women had gone to Haiti with the missionaries and she was almost crying when she told us about how poor the people were or are and was really thankful that she could go and help in whatever capacity that she was able to do so! May God Bless every Missionary here and in foreign lands! I understand the need is great! Prayers for you and your Mission Group to stay safe and healthy with the ability to help whomever and wherever each is able! Amen! Ma Betty
