Guess what I found!!! Yippeee!!!:yikes:

I was going through the junk stuff that I found and decided to clean up something I had originally thought was gold and was told by someone in the coin buisness that it was a copper melt. Well this one is for that gentleman!!!! I started cleaning it and BOOOM!! right on its edge was USA TWENTY!!!! HAHAHA to him!! Its a $20 Dollar coin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been soaking it since the pics so I will repost what year if legible!!!

Then the other day I was out with my brother and he found a nice revolutionary buckle. I happened uppon this nice freemason buckle of some kind. Wow this spot will be mine for the rest of my life . I will post better pics later !!! Holy Goosebumps my first GOLD COIN!!! I cant get over it.

Sorry about the pics....Click on the image error url for large view of the side of the gold coin.
Also anyone have ideas on cleaning would be appreciated.

Great finds pal.

That's it. I quit posting on this forum. How can anybody match that.

It was only a matter of time before you found sometime like that.

Did it hit on gold or copper? I know big gold rings can hit high, because of the other metals mixed with it. I want to know so I can find me one.

It hit a very high signal , very strong.....I am puzzled why I believed the dealer at first. Almost sold it to him for 5 bucks. I want to show someone who knows who I can trust to help me. Its getting cleaner ...Its going to be a slow process. Any good cleaning methods???? Its caked on crusty . ......This sucker is heavy too.

One thing about it is that very few things can hurt gold. You have to know how to mix acids together to get it to eat the gold. I don't think you have any nitric acid laying around. Even that can't do it by itself.

Congratulations on a first class find!:clapping: It sounds like you need to find a more honest expert. Just as well you gave it a bit of a scrub. Hopefully, you'll be able to give it a good clean and show it off in all it's glory.
All the best.
Mick Evans.

You better get a nice story and photo ready....that would sure look good in the Searcher magazine! Below is the link:

John, you have to get away from where the poor folk lived to find stuff like that. I don't think to many were dropped in the town I live in either. But you never know. That's what keeps me swinging.

I need your help....Its possibly something else.....its 1 and 1/2" across .....very heavy .....its says usa twenty on the side though.....
across the center of the coin it says "twenty dollars" any ideas?? i never saw anything like it....

Keep cleaning and posting. Someone will figure it out.

Can you weigh it? $20 weighed .96750 of an ounce of gold and some copper to make it over an ounce. Its diameter is 34mm.

Another one of those finds where I can't see any details. I hope you are being careful with your cleaning. It certainly resembles gold, but gold should not corrode like that. It might have been in a fire which would answer the question as to why it looks like that. I think you could have it tested for gold content without damaging it any more that it is already damaged. US $20 gold pieces have a diameter of 34 mm and a weight of 34.436g. There were lots of privately minted gold coins too.

You should buy yourself a guide to US coins and patterns. At a minimum a "Red Book" or better yet one of the more involved guides. They may be available at your local library. You can buy old coin guides at used book stores for almost nothing and they are handy to have around to use as a reference.

You find some amazing items that should properly identified and preserved.

Thanks for taking the wind out of my sails! (And congratulations!)

Chris
