Guess what SLQ I found? :super:

great find King  is the stain eaten into the coin ??? i find the 90% + silver coins rarely have stains eating into the coin & if the coin graders/cleaners are using electrolysis they may be able to knock most of the stain off you may want to talk to them about it.

What do you mean it doesn't look right? It's a heavily worn coin found in a very wet poop ridden area. The pictures do not do this coin justice but the details are there and everything is in relation to each other plus. We will see when I get it authenticated. If it is a counterfeit then I will gladly tell everyone here.

I think what he's trying to say is that unless you found the coin very near a rusty old iron object of some size it's very rare for a silver coin to come out of the ground with all of that iron oxidation on it. When silver spends a long time in a wet environment as far as I know it comes out black. I hope that it authenticates well as it's a great find (either way)! Let us know what u hear! And it sounds like you've found a great location to detect!!

don't forget the goose poop that's there 24/7. Either way I am going to have it authenticated just to satisfy my curiosity.

I did look on the Web to see if there was much of a history for conterfeits for that coin. Didn't see much. More about altered dates. I've just never seen a silver coin come out of the ground looking like that. Taste some of that goose poop and see if it has an irony flavor.

I doubt very seriously if it is an altered coin or a counterfeit one. As far as stains go they usually come out of wet soil blackened to some degree. But on the flip side of that as an example, I found an old coin purse this summer on a ski slope that has run off and spring water all year round on it. The purse had 2 silver Kennedy halves and one Silver Quarter. The quarter was an orangeish stain that cleaned up nicely with a little soap and water and the two silver halves were stained badly and required electrolysis on them. The purse had a metal snap that had rusted thru and probably was touching one of the half dollars and then transferred to the other one. I think the quarter is the real deal but don't believe it will clean up to any degree. Just my 2 cents worth on the subject.
Nice find King

Unfortunately it's in pretty rough shape. I do think it could be cleaned or made to look better than what it is now but not much better and certainly nothing can be done to enhance it's numismatic value.

With you guys going at me I might have to get both of them authenticated. I might even have some geese as witnesses testify for me. It's getting that bad now.

Be careful gleaning it. I dug a walking liberty half that looked just like that and ruined it trying to clean it. It had been burned. I found it where they had been burning garbage.

I would not even think of cleaning it.
