GUN CONTROL:laugh:

It's rather ironic that he and his cohorts want to disarm America but nothing is said about the automatic weapons the federal agents carry. Before I retired from our local sheriff's department, as a reserve officer, I had the opportunity to work closely with a few, from the secret service, and what they carried made our equipment (firearms) look like child's play toys!

This whole gun control thing is insane, IMO. They aren't focusing on the real problems. They can't see the forest for the trees! I think most of you know that I am very much opposed to hunting (although Duck Dynasty IS my favorite show), but I am a huge supporter and believer in the 2nd Amendment. We have our little arsenal locked away in gun safes. I personally own 6 handguns and 4 rifles (all the rest belong to my husband). I carry a handgun in my purse at all times (yes, I do have a permit), and in certain situations I might have one tucked away in other places. We aren't going to go out and start shooting people! We have guns for protection/safety, for target practice, and just because we love guns. The only way I would ever aim a gun at another human being is to protect myself, my family or property. I hope I never have to face a situation like that and I've often thought that if I did, I probably would not "shoot to kill" but would shoot to wound (in hopes of stopping the person from doing what they were trying to do).

I really cannot understand the gun mentality in the US. This is not meant to be a criticism, just expressing my lack of understanding the issue.

I live in Australia and only know one person who owns a gun. My connections are broad: that is I know hundreds of people in Churches, prospecting clubs, music clubs, and more, yet only one that I know of has a gun. So maybe you can see that it is hard for me to understand the idea of being armed. I have never owned a gun. People do own guns here, I don't deny that, but most don't as far as my connections go anyway. But on this Forum many seemed to be armed. To me, that is very unusual.

As I watch various things on TV I see guns everywhere in the US. You just don't see it here. The Police are armed in Australia (unlike Britain) but I have never seen one draw a weapon. Yet on American TV we see them with their hands on a gun during traffic stops! This absolutely amazes me and, to be honest, makes me glad to live here and not there. But I can understand it as all sorts of people seem to be armed, and the Police are potentially facing danger. But it doesn't happen here.

Anyway, I am not seeking a debate on the issue. I suppose that these comments are critical in fact, but I am just putting a viewpoint in the hope of finding some sort of understanding. Looking on from afar, it does seem to me to be a unique American mindset. In Australia we have all the freedoms that you enjoy without carrying or owning weapons.

Please don't attack me, I am merely seeking an understanding.

If one takes a look at the history of gun control you will find that some very bad things happened to the citizens who no longer had a means to defend themselves from the tyranny heaped upon them by their Governments. Gun Control has absolutely nothing to do with guns. It is all about being able to control the people.

Hi George....I absolutely agree with you....it is greed and power in our Government Leaders and our present president....I think he has made an Executive Order for him and all presidents afterwards to be provided protection by the Government from now on, so what does that tell you about his belief in gun control protection...he knows it will not be for criminals and those who want guns will have them by ignoring the law! May God Bless and protect you and yours and all of God's Children! Amen! Ma

I own several and not one time has any of them did anything on there own. Mine are used for hunting and target shooting only. This needs to be on the views forum.

Leslie I Pray it never comes to the point a criminal decides he wants everything you have worked your whole life for to supply you and your Family with a living or maybe there are no people where you live that decide what you have is what they want without working for it . Please don't take what I am saying wrong but the gun Laws only protect the Criminals because they want turn in the STOLEN Guns they have that they use to inflict pain and suffering on honest people Trust me Taking Arms away from Law abiding citizens is not the answer. I do not not have the answer for all the reasons some disturbed individuals shoot and kill others but I do have the answer how They pull the trigger of a Metal object that will only do damage to a Human being from another not on its Own . On its own it is no deadlier than a Parked Car . But put a Driver under the Influence of Alcohol and the car becomes a Lethal weapon JMHO and God Bless

If those living in areas with wild animals that attack humans, would not have protection from them like guns would....so we do need guns...only when Jesus comes will there be peace upon the earth when He rules for a thousand years and then forever! Amen! Ma

as a victim of violent gun crime, ( see my post in the Friends and finds forum ) I have nothing at all against guns. In fact I grew up with guns in the house and learned at an early age their proper use and handling.
My Bible, in 1 Timothy 5:8 says that he who wont provide for his family has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
Vines expository dictionary defines the Greek word translated "provide" as "to take thought for" if I am thinking of providing for my family it has to involve more than just food, clothing, and shelter. It has to include safety and protection for all dangers, spiritual and physical, and my guns might be one of the means to "provide for".
Remember, guns are not the problem, the sinful nature of fallen man is!

These wild animals are Gods' creations.Man comes into contact with them because we encroach on their natural habitats....through our selfishness we create situations of confrontation with other species. My answer would be to manage the way we interact with our environment in a more responsible way......i think God would approve of this approach.....i think he might be a little upset that we kill his creations just because they are acting instinctively in their own habitats.Maybe we should just shoot them all and get it over and done with....after all we are doing our best to destroy our environment and cause the extinction of thousands of different species.
I plead with you Lord to show us a better way of looking after the gifts you have given us because at the moment we just seem to take and destroy them.Amen.

Neil, God did put us above his creations and to be a keeper of them! Genesis 1 God said, "let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth" (New Revised Standard Version [NRSV], Genesis 1:26). I don't feel
there is any wrong in what Ma Betty said; that we should be able to defend ourselves against wild animals. In our State we had a home invasion, the perpetrators raped and killed the wife and both of the
doctors teenage daughters, now these individuals are far worse than the wild animals, but both could kill you. If the good doctor had a gun don't you think he might of stood a better chance protecting his family.
I would have no problem destroying evil and even sacrificing my own life to protect someone I loved or a life that God holds dear. I'll deal with asking for forgiveness after the dust settles. I was with a young man that shot himself in the head. He had a gun he should not of been able to get a hold of, do I blame this on the gun no! The person who owned the gun was not responsible enough to know the dangers of unlocked guns with children around.

George,i agree with what you are saying to a point. However these creatures have been given to us as a gift to provide us with food, clothing and a way to survive. The problem is that we are now abusing these gifts rarther than managing and sustaining them......we are slowly destroying the things that give us a means to survival.God has given us the gift of the earth and all of it's creatures no matter how magnificent or humble......he has also blessed us with the intelligence to look after these gifts which includes the common sense not to put ourselves in a position to kill a wild animal just because it acts instinctively. You can not compare a human attacking another human in the same context of a wild animal attacking a human.A human attacks another human with the knowledge he is doing wrong against Gods' will and also our laws.....an animal attacks to defend it's territory, for food or to protect it's young.Luckily we now have organisations that try to educate people how to live with dangerous wild animals in a way that conflict can be more easily avoided......wild animals are not evil and they do not deserve to be killed because they become an inconvinience to us.

Neil, your right, but if put in a situation that ones life is at risk God actually
puts us above the animals. If your killing animals regardless of their size
for kicks then that is wrong. Killing an animal out of necessity for warmth
food or protection falls within the limits of dominion over, if done without
neglect!
