Gypsy Tour Fob

I found this today while detecting an old backyard dump site in a park. It appears to be from the American Motorcytle Association. Can any one tell me more about the event and what ezactly is it a metal or fob.

Certainly the 1918 Federation of American Motorcyclists' event was one of the early ones. On a given day, members nationwide would meet at various designated regional sites and then travel en masse to a second location, often 100+ miles away, where other activities would be held. I'm told that this item was really part of a ribbon badge when issued; and that after winning, participants cut it off the ribbon to wear as a fob.
