Had a big problem

Seen a video today that reminded me of a big problem i had metal detecting last spring in Fla. I was detecting the beach and keeps getting hits n bleeps every were. Took me a few minutes to figure out what was going on. I had never hunted the beaches and bought a new sand scoop made of galvanized metal. It was interfering and giving me reading from my scoop unless i held the scoop behind my back.the visit i seen the detectorist was using a large shovel. Just wanted to post this so people can learn from my mistake before they ruin a great day hunting

i made a similar mistake once wearing steel toed boots. it made detecting impossible!

I have that problem using my Raven shovel that has a full steel handle. The shovel is awesome, but if I'm using a larger coil it picks up the shovel at high sensitivity settings. On the beach you can can sometimes use a short length of rope and drag the scoop behind clipped to your belt. That way it leaves a helpful line letting you know where you have already detected.
