Had a chance to clean up some finds...

Hello all.
No detecting in awhile so I figured it was time to clean up and photograph a few of the more interesting finds from this past fall.
The 1794-1797 Liberty Cap Half Cent, head facing right, was sitting in olive oil for about 3 months - not much detail there - you can barely make out the bust on the obverse and the wreath on the reverse. Too bad those coppers take such a beating.
The 1834 Capped Bust dime spent about 2 minutes in an electrolysis bath. I find this removes the severe tarnish (coin was almost black) while retaining that nice aged "patina" look.
Both finds from some of the plowed fields out on eastern Long Island where we hold the Artifact Detecting Team events.

Thanks for looking and HH.

Thanks for taking the pictures of your Colonial finds Barry! I'm glad you guys are able to pull stuff up from the foundation of our Country!

That is one gorgeous Bust Dime. Our area (Central Illinois) is not known for to many finds like that. I have in the past found a few coppers dating from that period but to date no silver.
The oldest US coin I have ever found was in a very old farm yard and it was a 1806 large cent, in very poor condition. My son found a 1846 large cent in the guys drive way laying right on top the soil. It was the best property I ever hunted as between my son and I we found 7 Seated Liberty Dimes in one day, and my father-in law found a 18K wedding band with and inscription in it and a date of 1886.
Best of luck to you in your future hunts and keep taking and showing us those photo's. Rick "IL"
