Had a Infinuim but

I found it to be to noisy in the water.The first one to come out two years ago was really bad.Then Brent from Garrett came to S.FL and brought a revised model about 8 months ago.Garrett was niece enough to give me a loaner to try for a while.I used it in the wet sand for a month and found it to be a little noisy but workable as long as I worked from the dry sand to the water edge.I finally got in the water on a calm day and in gave me a Hi-low or a Low -hi tone with ever little wave that went over it.I sent it back right away.I tried every adjustment to stablize it with not pervail without losing gold.I was wondering if there were any impovements this last 8 months.I like the unit and it is deep but to noisy.We have no ground minerals in south Florida so detectors only see the salt in the water.I work for Reilly's Treasured Gold (detector equipment sale) this is how I got a loaner.If there is any improvement I will try to get another one to try.The 2200d does work but is not waterproof.Any info is a help,Joe

Hi Joe
I know this is going to sound strange to you but parts of Florida are heavy mineralized. In certain areas is near impossible to get a detector to work, especially one running in the all metal mode like a PI would. At one time there were a lot of surface mining going on there, and certain silica was being removed from the sand. In those places detecting with a PI unit is very tough.

I agree some parts of Fl do have minerals like up around Fort Pierce has some black sand.Down here in Broward and Dade we have none.I not saying there is anything wrong with the infinium line but was wondering if there has been any improvements.I do believe the Goldquest is a good machine but I cannot afford to try one and would only buy the waterproof model. I did go with a mark II and it does read waves rolling over the coil which the first one I had didn't seem to do this.One thing is a post ago was talking about running the coil cord straight up the lower shaft.I do remember that is how I had the first one running.I hope this helps the extra noise to settle down.We can use Tr machines and with good preformance were other places it will not work do to the ground minerals.I do use a Excal for my main machine but during summer time alot of sand gets pushed up to the shore and target sink fast and deep.I do know a PI will go deepper.Thank you for the reply,the guys on this forum are helpful and informitive,It is a real pleasure to post with people who take time to post back,good hunting and happy 4th,Joe

Hi Joe,
Bill is right on... salt water environments vary tremendously. And so do reports on detector performance. One person gets good results, another somewhere else dismal.
I had a lot of noise from my Infinium on the south shore of Kauai in Hawaii. Other people have reported detector problems there.
I have my own theory. There is a missle tracking station on the south shore of Kauai, and Florida obviously has similar installations. Perhaps radio interference is also an issue?
I believe there have been two modifications to the original Infinium design so far. One was a hardware change, and the other a tuning change, from what I have heard. Do not take that as gospel, however. The best bet is to contact Garrett on the latest.
Or maybe time to switch horses. Bill is going to be selling me a Goldquest yet. I have a buddy has one, and we were going to try it on my mining claims this weekend, but the weather kept us from flying in. So we will try again in a couple weeks. I'm curious how the Goldquest will handle my hotrocks.
I'm off to hunt freshwater with my Infinium as soon as I finish typing this note. I'm anticipating a lot of junk, but we will see what the Infinium can pull up from the depths.
