Had fun at the beach

Digging wasn't too good, though. I didn't really find anything but part of a silver chain, and it may not have been real. I usually take a couple of surf rods when I go to the beach, but didn't. Bought a (don't laugh) Zebco 202 rod and reel combo for 10.00 on the way down. When I was a kid, I would venture out into the ocean with those old black Zebco 202's-----the old made in USA ones, and surf fish with alot of luck! I didn't mind getting salt water in the reels then(or now), because they were cheap, and would rinse off nicely. Other folks on the beach, with their high-dollar equipment would watch me catch fish while being beaten-up by waves. I caught alot more than they did, too. Now, back to story.....I took my(new) 202 out with a 3oz. weight on a two-hook bottom rig, baited with big squid chunks. I caught two small sand sharks when the others out there caught nothing. It was funny watching the looks I got. I had the last laugh......The seafood was great, we had a good time, and I'm kinda glad to get back home. Now that I'm back in my own environment, I'm going digging locally tomorrow. Hope to have some pics of finds tomorrow night. Y'all take care.....Rick

Glad you had a good time and showed those with expensive rods and reels how to catch fish! Reminds me of Cliff and I going fishing with a limb fishing pole with a worm on the hook or some other bait and we caught a few small fish! Was fun just to try when just younguns! Vacations are nice, but it is nice to be able to come back home to clean up everything and rest! Hope you find some very nice goodies! :) God Bless! Betty

Hey Rick...sounds like you had a great time! Ahhh...the old 202...man, I caught more fish on my 202's than any other combo. As kids, we would take 2-3 with us catfishing at night off the banks of the lake and caught shad, catfish, drum and carp on them. It was always fun trying to reel in a 10lb carp on them. And like you, when we got home we just rinsed the sand and mud out of them. With the proper amount of line on them they would cast about half a mile out. When my son started getting interested in fishing I bought him a brand new 202 combo and was really diappointed in the quality of it.

Good luck hunting on your home turf!!

Thanks, Doug. Got up early to dig this morning, and it is pouring down rain. Oh, well.........

Thanks, Mike. Now, it is raining, so I guess it will be no digging today..........

Bummer...it's supposed to rain here through Friday, mostly afternoon thunderstorms. My youngest brother and I had planned to go to the lake tomorrow afternoon for a fishing trip. We had planned to camp over night on an island and then fish all day Wedn. But with the forcast we decided to just try to squeeze in and afternoon or morning fishing trip now.

Good luck fishing! We've had plenty of rain here in Va. this spring, and I've gotten behind with the field mowing and stuff. Gotta go dig today or tomorrow, because I'm off for two days. back to work on wednesday, so I'm sure Wed. will be sunny and nice. Workdays usually are..... Gotta go find something.......Back later.....
