Handle grip protection....

Pete in MI

New member
the handle grip on the detectors get a lot of dirt and grime that is hard to clean and leads to an ugly and uncomfortable grip.

Here is an item I think might help solve the problem and easier to do your maintenance on. Just can't stick the handle under water to soak off the dirt. For $2 a roll you can get this 'tape'. It isn't sticky like electrical tape or Scotch tape yet it sticks to itself. You could even add a gauze pad or even a panty liner under the tape for extra cushioning. (Don't put the sticky side of a panty liner on the handle grip or the glue could stay behind when the pad is removed).

Best thing is after using this tape and it is filthy you can just unwind it and pitch it in the trash and put on a clean on. The grip stays neat and clean.

Here is the product (and notice it is made in the USA).

Be carefull using tape because the edge always has some adhesive and will pick up all dirt. Interesting idea though! You are always thinking Pete! :)

Here is what the flesh colored (1 inch tape also known as Vet Wrap) looks like on the handle:

A little closer look:

It comes in lots of colors - even some not shown here (so far I was able to find colors of Purple, Gold, Dk Blue, Lt Blue, Green, Yellow, Red, Flesh, Pink, Black, WHite, Lime Green...someone probably sells camoflage)

Below I used a piece of the 1 inch wrap to secure the coil cable on the lower shaft to keep it from rattling around and causing noise.

I also found for you pet lovers wrap with paw prints.

Here is more thoughts. Say you go detecting with a bunch of friends who own the same make and model detector - how do you pick yours out of the crowd? By the cool wrap you put on the handle of course.

Here's another thought: You go detecting in an area where small saplings and weeds keep grabbing the coil cable you have wrapped around the lower shaft...solution: use the wrap to wrap the cable from coil to upper control unit - no more slack cable getting caught in the briars and brambles.

Neat idea! I like it more now! I think it would be cool to wrap your friends handle in pink when he wasn't looking!

then ya can blend in with the vegetation..just don't lay the detector down in the grass or ya might not find it...or someone will step on it.
