YeeHaww!!! Got the call from UPS this morning "Come and pick up your brand new Excalibur 1000 it's cleared customs".
Am I ever a happy birthday boy today. I've got the battery on charge at work and I am heading to the beach as soon as I clear work.

Thanks so much to Sean at A&S for sending it express at no extra charge so I could have it for today instead of 2 weeks from now.

The battery didn't come charged so I had to wait 12 hours before I used it as I didn't want to risk establishing a partial charge threshold (think they've resolved the memory problem but not sure).
Sean is the guy at A&S where I finally got a detector, nobody would ship to Bermuda. I wanted to buy one from the Guvner but he never got back to me.
Tonight will be my first run with the new machine, can't wait.

The Excal is no Ace 250, very different technique but I like it. Now I just have to master it. It's like starting all over.
I got out for an hour last night but it was high tide and I only have a hand scoop, no long handle yet. Found a lot of deep targets 8 to 12 inches, probably because I wasn't able to get out further than the depth my arm could reach to. I was totally soaked when my wife came down to the beach to call me in for dinner, but man did I have fun.
Managed to dig a bunch of targets that were either pull tabs or can slaw and one pewter tea cup from a childs doll set.
Minus tides all weekend, will take the weekend off of work and try my luck,fun,fun,fun. Developing a newfound respect for you veteran surfhunters and your piratical dedication to the hunt.
 
You must get a long handled scoop to be successful in the surf. In my experience you will find heavier, more valuable targets out in ankle to chest deep water. These areas also receive much less pressure, as you must be dedicated for the pounding that you will receive out there. Scan slow & wide & overlap your sweeps and take your time and listen for the Excal's melodious tunes. Success will be yours. Keep us posted. I can't wait to see what you find! Don't bother buying an aluminum 1, because when you break it in half, you'll be down till your replacement comes in and you will not be happy. Buy a stainless, because you will be putting enormous pressure on it out there. Kinda wiggle it after it is sunk to break it loose from the bottom. You may have to put some galvanized wire into the bottom to keep small targets from falling through. Good Luck!
 
Thanks for the advice GH. I know I need a beach scoop but I haven't been able to get one here or delivered from the US of A. I may have to build one myself, which is doable.
In fact, I think I'll take a wander on the construction site and see what I can do about that right now.
