Thirty degrees when I started detecting with my step son and another friend today. With a calm & sunny day it wasn't too bad with duofold underwear and neoprene gloves. Some areas were too tough to dig through the frost layer (and rocks) with hand tools so I kept moving until I found an area I could pull targets from. Because we were pulling up anything that was not positively iron it was important not to waste time chipping at the ground. To get the kind of results I posted lately it's targets per hour not cherry picking that give results.

Here's the lady before cleaning. I'm real careful with silver when I recover it, the sand and gravel are always a threat to scratching it so I drop it in a small container of water with everything clinging to it, rather than try and read details. This one had some old scars and honest wear. That shiny spot on the obverse was there when I first saw it - dang gravel!

Yt, A Seated Quarter is an excellent find. That baby was in circulation a long time before it was finally lost.

congratulations, those are the coins that pop up when you least expect them, it like alright! We're supposed to get near 40 degrees in a couple days after at least a week of bitter cold. Im hoping at least the areas out in the sun might be dig gable. Good Hunts, CO

That's a well earned Trophy.
30 degree weather would stop me in my tracks.
Way to go, you have far more heart then I.

Thats a real beauty! A trophy of a hunt in extreme odds! :clapping: Seems a lot of silver gets found from October on through to heavy freeze?
