Thirty degrees when I started detecting with my step son and another friend today. With a calm & sunny day it wasn't too bad with duofold underwear and neoprene gloves. Some areas were too tough to dig through the frost layer (and rocks) with hand tools so I kept moving until I found an area I could pull targets from. Because we were pulling up anything that was not positively iron it was important not to waste time chipping at the ground. To get the kind of results I posted lately it's targets per hour not cherry picking that give results.

I'm real careful with silver when I recover it, the sand and gravel are always a threat to scratching it so I drop it in a small container of water with everything clinging to it, rather than try and read details. This one had some old scars and honest wear. That shiny spot on the obverse was there when I first saw it - dang gravel!
