This thing has really been solid for me.....works good if takin care of. Anyone else out there use one of these ? For 15 bucks can't beat it. Thx

Ive used mine for the last 7 years with-out a problem.Works great and you cannot beat the price.HH Wayne in Delaware

i loved mine but saved up and got the pro pointer that is a sweet pinpointer hit bart up he can give you a good deal one one http://bigboyshobbies.net/

I had one but gave it away when I bought my propointer. My problem with it was that the probe has to be actually touching metal before it goes off. If your target is even slightly covered, it does nothing. Glad it works for you though.

Never had one, but from what I have heard, they are not that bad, but do need to be handled with kid gloves...I carry around a Teknetics (Bounty Hunter) Pin Pointer as a backup...It was also relatively cheap, but works in a pinch.
I modified the BH with a stronger buzzer and a LED light. I also tweked a pot to get maximum sensitivity and depth. It will do about 1 1/2 inches on a dime.

HH,

I guess my point here is yes there r better pinpointers out there than this one but for 15 bucks u can't beat this one if u take care of it. For people lookin for u and funds r low....this is a good choice.

I have one as a backup although I used it as my main 'pointer for about a year. I really never had any complaints with it other than it being a little fragile feeling. I had to resolder the power switch and sealed the tip with silicone but it was plenty good for it's intended use! I upgraded to a Propointer because I COULD and I do like it better. But I won't feel undergunned if I have to bring out the $15 dollar backup!

I have one that I put a switch on and a vibrating motor. It works really good.

Is this a dedicated pinpointer from Harbor Freight, or a modified stud finder. Just curious... there is a Harbor Freight not too far from hear so I may check it out; just wondering what I should ask for if I don't see it. Any body got a pic or model number?

The Cen-Tech pin-pointer sold by Harbor Freight, was designed to find nails in lumber that was being reused. Someone saw the potential for them to be used as pin-pointers, now more are sold to find coins in holes, than are sold to find nails in wood.

They are cheap, with poor ergonomics but some of the other machines out there are just as ugly. The Cen-Tech can be tuned and tweaked and for the money it is a very good machine. I have seen people write that they don't hold up to the 'rough stuff' but, I have seen the same people write on the forums that their expensive Garret pin-pointer broke or that they have broken a couple of Garrets and they always imply that the fault lays with Garrett! Look after your tools and they will look after you.

The Cen-Tech is a good, low priced machine, look after it and it will ferret out the coins you can't find, but your metal detector tells you are there.

BTW this is the most interesting Hack (modification) I have seen for a Cen-Tech.

If these little boxes of technology were not great for the price, people would not take the trouble to work on them.

The Harbor Frieght Pin Pointer was my first. It's really a stud finder but it works ok for finding
a target. Once I could afford the Garrett Pro Pointer, I never looked back!

Yep that's the one....what I do is I keep the frabric covering on mine and push button through the fabric.....then I went to lowes and got a lite drill holder harness that goes on my belt.....that pin pointer fits great in it. Fabric covering keeps the dirt out. Works great !! Yes I'm a hillbilly but u gottta improvise.

It was my first pinpointer because I could not afford anything better. It worked but you had to be right on top of the target and touching it!
If thats all you can afford at this time, by all means get the dang thing, but sometime down the line do yourself a favor and get a GOOD pinpointer.
Yo0u will wonder why you ever bought that cheap piece of junk rom HF!
