I finally did it. My "th" partner, flynndfx40, and I went turkey hunting this morning and were messed up by a lot of hens who took the "tom" away so we packed up and hit a freshly plowed field where we have had a lot of good luck the past 2 years. 5 minutes after starting he finds a "V" nickel which he will be posting in a separate story. After congratulations were handed out about 30 minutes later I recieved a solid bottlecap signal on my XLT at about 2 1/2". When I dug up the loosely plowed soil I saw a round shape that looked like a button and I thought another flat button but it was concave. After carefully cleaning some of the dirt from it, I saw it was a William Harrison campaign button from 1840. I stopped cleaning. My partner has found 2 of these buttons from this field over the years but this was my first. I took it home and cleaned it with a soft toothbrush and then some aluminum jelly which brought out some of the gilt on it. WOW what a day for us. We now call it the "Harrison Field". Going back after the rain for more hunting and arrowheads also. This field has it all.
