To take a lower rod, like a 2' or so, mount a small coil on it, put some sort of cable splitter "T" or "Y" on your main big coil sweeper, with some sort of switch so only one coil is hot at a time...I'm thinking then a guy could use the big coil to sweep the large areas of a totlot, throw the switch to disable the big coil, but power up the small coil to sweep under and close to the equipment in the playgrounds without having to mount the little coil rod to the machine itself? Just swing it around all hunched over in the tight spots? I am not sure if the kind of cable adapter is available with the switch built in? I think this set up would be killer for cleaning out a totlot/bleacher area fast, Or am I thinking about winter discussions a little too early?

Read your credentials by clicking on your name.. I would say if anyone can come up with a split coil combination it "could" be you..


Why don't you play with the idea..and see where it goes.. In essence the Sunray Probe is no more than a minni coil attached to the detector... Maybe you can expand this concept and attach a 3" or 5" coil by using similar technology... Any idea is a good idea till it's proven wrong.... I'm betting you can make it work...

I'll check out some components and see what happens...It would be nice to somehow carry that little coil/rod assembly snapped in place under the armrest area to be deployed quickly when the situation dictates... I'm used to swinging the 11"dd, but I am sure the little coil would be very handy when tight subsurface spills are detected...they can be a real challenge to unravel, and I guess in a big bleacher area, a guy could unhook the big coil/lower rod assy, and pop on the little coil without having to unhook the coil wires too. Course, this could result in one big mess if its not done right. I wanted to know if anybody has given this a go in the past?

Lets see, the last two mornings my hands froze up a little, we can usually hunt pretty good until the snow gets too deep. Sometimes depending upon the circumstances, the ground is not too froze under the snow, and a fellow can really rocket through an area like a soccer field. Then, there is always the sledding/skiing hills we have here, and as you know, wherever people are pulling off gloves and such, all sorts of opportunities await a plucky bundled up lad! Snow hunting is sort of like beach hunting, only colder! And yes, I'm thinking way too much! Elton, that Sunray probe is exactly what I need, except instead of the probe, the other coil hooks up...hmmm..Thanks!

How about this, Mud- a dual coil with a sniper coil embedded at the base of a wide coil. Run a couple extra lines in the cable to a Sunray type switch for selecting which has priority and a pigtail to the fully stock MD connector. The non-functioning coil may distort the active one but it should be static and maybe move the point of strongest signal response a set amount in a predictable manner, IE target is two inches forward of center, not centered. It might even super-tune some and add depth- who knows until you try?

I just got back from my morning totlottin' soccerfield coin spillin' clad stabbin spree...and Yes, somebody has got to do something about this enigma...Big coils are great, until you get in the trash, then they arn't. Little coils are swell, until you get in the wide open, then they arn't...Maximizing time afield is all I'm after. Flip a switch and go would be awesome!
I must say again this week, the totlots are really getting pounded around here, and not just by me...I've taken to working the periphery areas, and broad wide open spaces for random drops that are no where near structure (big coil work). Lunch and back out!

make a switch that has two coil cable jacks instead of one, and lose the probe. That would be the simplest, cleanest way to not change anything factory, and try this out, and maybe even give a valuable and loyal vendor to this site something else he can market. i'll keep y'all posted.

I tried putting aluminum foil over the bottom of one of my coils to see if I could get more depth out of it. I got really good bone-snapping hits, but when I'd dig, I never could find anything. Still working on it though
