Has anybody ever used the 8in concentric coil on an Explorer?

I ordered the 5in DD today and when the 8in was mentioned, it got me curious. I imagine that It may give better audio feedback than a DD but I've never heard of anyone using a concentric coil on an Explorer before.
Thanks for any input you can give.

The foot print is totally different on those concentric coils. Its kind of cone shapped and there is a LOT more soil it has to process ... which affects the TID. I think the DDs are hard to beat. A good many of the other companies are starting to follow suit with larger DD coils. I like the concentric to pick thru trash.... but most places like parks are more open and you tend to want to switch coils. So... call me lazy, i think the DD does well so i just leave mine on and move slower. Plus you really have to over lap a lot more.

I tried it for awhile, but was kind of hard to use after so much time with DD coils. I can't honestly say I gave it nearly enough swing time to know whether it has a place where is shines.

Thanks Dew and Chris. I thought you might be able to feel around a target more with the concentric, listening at the audio drop off for clues that might not be heard on the DD's. Mind you; the Explorer already has a pretty good audio system.

I think with the concentric you can SIZE a target better, pinpoint more accruate, and it may go a little deeper... BUT the down side is you may have a foot print the size of a silver dollar at 8 inches. The whites audio set up is different than the ML. You got a pretty good burst from a large target and you could almost tell by the audio what you were hearing. The ML to me.... when i go over a target that loud burst is LIMITED so those shallow targets all have the same volume. Its a little more difficult to know without raising your coil that its a BIG can. So id dont know that you would notice a difference passing over a target. The DD works like that little light on a scanner as you draw the coil across a target... it may not hit as hard as a concentric, but then it may be the DETECTOR not the coil.

I've used them for cherry picking with a lot of success but don't recommend them for anything other than neutral soil and you won't get the depth of a DD of equal size.

Thanks for the further imput Dew and Mike. I'll enjoy the 5 in coil tomorrow when it arrives, and I'll consider the concentric again in a bit. It would be an interesting coil to play around with I'd imagine.
