has anyone compared an Xterra to a Tesoro

I use my 705 with a 10.5" coil and no Doc's Swingy Thing or any kind of shaft modification. I easily put 5 and 6 hours in during a day of detecting with no pain or long breaks.

I guess everyone's different.

I gotta bad back an yeah the xterra gives me hell after a couple of hrs , I made up a straight sharft and that improved the balance and has extended my hunt time I can twice as long with less pain...... a tesoro umax with a small coil is heaven in the weight department even the Tejon with it 8 aa's an 8' coil is about the same weight as standard xterra but a lot better balanced is more comfortable to use no elbow or wrist niggles after a days use unlike the xterra ...if you have a bad back thats somethin to consider

I saw my spinal x-rays more than ten years ago, and they were scarey then! Narrowed discs, degenerative disc desease, spondilosis, old schmoral's nodes, etc... I'm a walking trainwreck, and to me the 705 is a featherweight that I can swing 8-10hrs no problem. I will say that by comparison my Silver Sabre Plus feels like a toy, and I'll likely sell it soon.

Now the Explorer Se w/12" Excelerator is another story. I'm actually thinking about an even bigger coil, and if I do I'll come up with something along the lines of the swingy thingy, 'cause that bugger will be heavy.

I have an X Terra 70 and several Tesoros. Frankly, I dont compare them, because they are all different....even the Tesoros I have are different to each other. They all have strengths, and some might say weaknesses, but I just enjoy using them all...the Tesoros are light, and great for me and my various injuries and complaints, but the X Terra is not too heavy either....no doubt I can swing my Eldorado or Cibola longer than I can the X Terra, but the De Leon and the X Terra are about the same. Depends on what you want out of a detector. I want enjoyment...I cant use heavy machines, so I use light (and good) machines.

i must sat that I think the Tesoro C or V is lighter than the Xterra but not balanced as good. I think the shaft that comes up on the Xterras make it a litlle easier to swing, also on tesoro no strap on arm cuff to help support your arm. does any one know of a good straight shaft like an anderson that makes the xterra balance better than the stock?

I don't normally dig a lot of 'tabs' unless I'm looking for gold rings. I never did figure out how to get any of my detectors to tell the difference between gold rings and pull tabs. Can any detector do that regardless of price? If there is a detector that can tell the difference, I want it (if it's light and easy to swing).

from my understanding no detector will pick up only gold and no pulltabs. i am willing to pull up tabs considering the price of gold over silver

I aint gunna get in a piss'n match withya over who's back is worse but I do take offense to ya smart arse comments belittling my complaint ...if you can swing it all day good for you ..oviously ya back aint as bad as ya make out ...shoe'n horses aint no biggie plenty of female farriers round here gettin the job done

I'm sorry. I didn't intend to belittle anyone.

However, I'll take issue with the "no biggie" comment. You've obviously never tried it, much less made a living at it. And as for the female farriers, see how many are still around after ten or fifteen years. Most men don't even last that long. Horses aren't all docile quiet well behaved beasts, and taking beatings from opponents that outweigh you by ten times takes it's toll after years.

Back on topic.... Tesoros are light. No doubt about it. There's nothing to 'em.

It's a good thing. It's good that we have so many choices. If all detectors were the same, we might as well be watchng NASCAR.
I don't even want to think about homologated metal detectors!

I hear you on the lack of volume control. If I get that issue on a detector, I cover the speaker with electrical tape. I start with one layer and put a couple more on it if needed. It works a treat and If I want to increase the volume, I just feel it part way off.

cheers , I know farrier work is back braiking labor Im a country man born and bred australian that was just me puttin the boot in , offended when told I aint got a bad back , I suffer pain daily have for over 20 yrs there aint'a day pass's thats pain free so you can see how that triggered my response ....no anamosity here

yeah back on topic Tesoros are light but by no means toy's , put the hrs in on one and master it hard to beat 'em there up there

yeah good tip Mick but it pains me why I "we"should have to bother when all thats needed is a volume control builtin if minelab can doit on low end xterra "305" then why cant the competion ? its 2012 and most detectors dont have volume control yeah ya can wear ph's with builtin volume control why shouldya have to thoug thats my reasoning

Thanks Digger for the links will definately give one of them a try . The Tesoro one looks the easiest. I will look into Andersons rod also although it doesnt look like the control box will snap into place on the grip????

I had a Sovereign GT straight rod, bought an X-TERRA grip from Plugger. He makes the entire rod assembly, but I only needed the grip. His X-TERRA grips have the hole in the top for the housing mount. HH Randy
