Has anyone experience with the Whites GMT on gold nuggets?

Hi,

Heck, yeah. Great unit, and I can hit specks with it that are so small I can't believe it. I'm talking flakes, not nuggets, weighing under a tenth of a grain. My GPX is my main unit but if I'm chasing specks or hardrock specimens I grab the GMT.

I'm in Oz and our grounds are very harsh compared to say Alaska. I'm assuming from your posts and others that the GMT would have trouble here where I detect for gold where as it is more suitable for your location in Alaska which is probably why you sell alot of GMT's am I right? I think you took my question the wrong way, I apologize if you misunderstood my question. Running at 48 Khz I can see why the GMT would struggle in our heavily mineralized grounds say compared to the XT-70's high frequency DD coil at 18.75 Khz. Does the GMT have a set frequency?
Cheers!

You can't use VLF in OZ, that is why PI's were developed, yes some areas, but big no in general, but you should be talking to Oz forums not here for answers! Good Luck....Don

Then what are you on about mate? Of course you can use VLF detectors in Australia, how do you think alot of the gold was found before PI detectors were introduced??? If you would read the entire discussion then you might understand where I'm coming from. Good luck to you too pal!
Cheers!

Hi nugget71,

Oh, no offense taken! I guess my thought was if you were looking for location specific info you could have said "Has anyone experience with the Whites GMT on gold nuggets in Oz?"

Yes, I'm in Alaska, and we actually do have places where the GMT suffers due to mineralization. So that could certainly be an issue for you.

For what its worth nugget71, the GM2 was very good on gold here in WA.
I was using it up till the SD2000's came out.
That was over 10 years ago and if the GMT is the later version of the GM2 then I would think it would be even better.

Yep, definitely got Aussie in the title.:)

Yes I guess I should have been more specific, thanks again for the information much appreciated.
