has anyone had issues with their outlaw in the cold.

Its happened to me twice now. Ill be out hunting with my outlaw in the evening and all is working great. But after the sun goes down and the temp outside starts to drop the outlaw will start going crazy like its around bad emi. Both times this has happened the temps were in the upper 40s. I didn't change sites and the sites im at have never had emi issues before. So it seems to me its a temperature thing. It gets so bad that I have to stop detecting cause of all the falsing . I have tried to adjust settings to try and make it stop but nothing helps. Im not sure if it is the detector or the coil with the issue. This has happened both times with the cleansweep coil. Im going to try another coil to see if it goes away. Just wondering if anyone has had this issue before.

The cold affects the battery causing it to act as if it was discharged. As the battery gets low, the detector starts to act up. If you can keep the battery warm, the detector will behave properly.

I had a battery that made me think my golden was broken.Mike is probably right. But also be open minded with what is going on with your detector. These are some things that i have heard:Atmosphere conditions can cause emi conditions to change. At certain times of the day at certain locations such as a time when traffic is heavy.Cell phones and cars can emit emi.I have noticed the outlaw to be sensitive to bumping the coil causing false signals.Wet grass.Rocks.There are things to take note of.

Im not sure thats the case with me cause ive never had issues with any of my other detectors and I use the same batteries. There NiMh rechargeable batteries. Ive used them in much colder weather and haven't had issues at all. It might be that the outlaw is more sensitive or something but its not that cold upper 40s to lower 50s. Ill give it a shot though ill keep an extra battery in my pocket to keep it warm and when it starts acting up ill switch it to see if it helps. Thanks for the advice.

ITS THE BATTERY i just took my outlaw outside, and wanted to try the no motion all metal , and as soon as it got close to a big metal object it started going off full blast non stop even after i would take it away from the metal object, I knew the battery was low already so i changed it to a new battery and it was perfectly quite and hit on some deep stuff, so I am going to say low battery , and it did not false one bit make shure your cord is not loose a loos cord may cause falsing so far so good with mine but I am not woried as i know it has a life time warrenty on it it is 35 f hear in minnesota and one other time i had is out when it was 28 and it worked fine i was using it on a snow hill had no problems no falsing at all make shure no water is in the coil cover and black sand , hope that helps

I too have hunted with mine in the teens for 3 hours straight and no issues at all. Like Gunn said, check coil connection and make sure no moisture between coil and coil cover. Keep us posted...

I had my my Cortes do the same thing while hunting in mid 30 degree weather once. I finally took both battery packs out then put them right back in to get the falsing to stop.

I know the battery was full only like 40 min on it the first time it happened and when I shut it off and restarted it I got the looooong battery check tone. The first thing I checked was the coil connection. It acts like its the coil causing the issue I thought that I was going to have to send the coil in but the next time I had it out and it was warmer it was fine. I still think that the cold is causing issues with the cleansweep coil. Im going to try another coil next time im out in the cold.

when things get cold they shrink , (get smaller) if its a conector its going to disconnect somthing loose

It's between the coil and coil cover, there is no connection there, so..I ask again what has moisture there got to do with anything??

I have had similar issues in wet grass with other machines.
Also had the same thing happen with coil wire not being tight enough. Snug it up good with a pliars.

I've had cold and/or low batteries drive detectors and pinpointers beserk. Always the first thing to check IMHO. Also make sure the replacement battiery is good. One of my worrisome sessions was quickly solved when I put the supposedly new good battery on a tester and it turned out to basically dead.

Thanks. Also one thing i have took note of over the years. If this detector was designed from the older tesoro models as the eldorado, these detectors had the most problems with over sensitivity to bumping, and high grass.I remember how my old eldorado would act,the outlaw acts the same way.May be i am so used to the V and the Tejon running so quit.

Moisture between coil and coil cover just messes with the machine.....I don't know why, but it does. :stars:

Haha.....No joke though, it may sound funny and a bit silly, but she gets really weird with water in between coil and cover. I've seen this posted by many others in the past and had never really experienced it until I got the Outlaw. Wet grass and the 8" concentric with coil cover goes nuts. I remove the cover, and all is good....Dunno...
