Has Anyone Heard About a Discriminating PI Unit Coming Out of the Whites Skunkworks?

I've heard a few rumours that a deep penetrating, discriminating, PI machine was going through field trials. Apparently, it will give you a very sore arm quickly from digging deep, deep holes.
Anyone??

Cheers,

Hi BDA,

Some of what you have heard is true, Whites does have a new ground balancing PI in the works and is being field tested. The unit should have a form of iron ID that will help a lot with determining a lot of the iron objects you will encounter. However, the detector is not a true discriminating PI and there are some problems separating out some ferrous items.

Some of the people who are testing them have learned much from using it and can determine more and more about a buried object. So, I imagine some people consider this a form of discrimination.

It is no secret, the Whites unit is or at least was based upon Eric Foster's GS 5 design, so now you know the foundation from which it came.

I hope this helps answer part of your question. In the meantime, we will just have to wait and see the final product.

Is this new machine to be the holy grail for the beach?

Any clues when testing will be available for common knowledge?

and cost?

Hi Nugget 71,

All we can do at this point is to guess as to what one might expect from the new Whites unit. My guess is there will be no TID feature.

As for MPTR's question about being the Holy Grail for the beach, I think that many will find it to be close but this is sort of an opinionated question.

As for the potential cost of this unit. I would hate to guess. If I were forced to guess, I would guess the unit will cost in the range of about $2000 plus or minus a couple of hundred. Remember, this is simply a wild guess on my part so I could be off quite a bit.

Hello,

Whites UK denies any new detector is in testing  ... I asked them directly.

One of the field testers was supposed to be working Va. Beacheither last week or this week, just a rumour. I'll check with the Gravedigger to see if he's heard anything more about it. Sending him an e-mail now, get back to you soon.

Hi George,

Good to see you posting again. I do need to get back to you about your GS 5. To be honest, I haven't done much since late last year.

Now, the TDI in the name has me wondering. Last September, I sent a suggestion about using a technique implemented in one of their present designs to add TID. Now, I am wondering if they decided to implement it. I think it would work ok but would still have some difficulty with some ferrous junk.

Thanks, George. Max got back to me and thought it was something else. Only 2 prototypes in existence at the moment???

Now I just have to figure out how to waterproof it for diving.

iv heard it will be a land detector? any one know? im looking for a new water unit!

I'm told it will be dry and wet sand only, not submersible. That doesn't mean it can't be modified to make it waterproof. I've seen more than a few waterproof modifications on everything from an ACE250 to high end detectors. Where there's a will, there's a way.

Hi Reg

It is good to hear from you again. That's OK about the GS5 as I simply have been too busy on my job for detecdting.

We will find out shortly about the White's as it will be released next month.
