Has anyone in here used a Garrett ACE 250?

Act 250, a real good machine for the money... It should sell for more. Don't tell Garrett that. I have two of them one for me and one for my wife. Erma found a 1723 coin with it. I also have a explorer, sovereign elite, quattro, and two Excalibur, plus a few others... I like the Ace for just walking around when I just want to hunt and not have to think.

Don't know yet but I just bought one. I am going on my first competition hunt at Daytona and everyone I have talked to said my EX 2's, DFX & CZ7a pro are too heavy for the fast pace of a comp hunt. Since all the targets are pretty shallow I don't need a deep seeking machine just light and fast??? Should be here next week and I can play with it

I started out with the Ace 250 and it was phenominal......until I moved up to Minelab Excal, Sovereign, and EXP..

Nearly all of my hunting is beach oriented and in about five months, I found over 4000 coins at various beaches. But I must add that one beach apparently never had a detector on it before as I found just about 800 coins in 6 hours over two days. When I first hit the beach, the detector had about five different hits on the first swing, I set the sensitivity down and swung again........ and the same thing happened so I dug all five and just said wow! Also found three rings and misc. junk jewelry at the same beach. My most impressive find with it was two Morgan Silver dollars that I found in a fresh cut at a south florida beach which to this day still seems impossible with how the sand moves there.

The higher end detectors go deeper to get the heavy stuff and are more sensitive to the smaller stuff. .......and my finds consequently changed dramatically as I added to my arsenal with detectors and coil assortments.

But...I gotta tell ya, .... This week I just bought another Ace 250 for my kids and guests. Its a great detector for beginners and finds and discriminates more than enough to get anyone interested. It's also pretty cool that you nearly always know exactly what you're diggin and what depth it's at. Shoulda never sold my first one.

G'day Nimrod.
I currently use an Ace250. it's a hot little detector, so long as you don't fall into the trap of comparing it to the Explorer. I've been spending a fair amount of time looking at other high end detectors, and to be honest, the only detector that I would buy as a sufficient enough improvement to warrant spending the money on; is the Explorer. I talked to a Garrett dealer yesterday about the GTI1500 and it doesn't offer much worth while that would make it a better detector than the Ace.
The Ace is an easy machine to operate; and as you gain experience with it, you will start to ID a lot of shallow targets (2in) by listening to the drop off on the pinpoint. One other major asset of the Ace, is it's ability to hunt right up next to metal. I haven't seen a detector that comes close to it. You just drop the sensitivity down to 1 or 2 bars and you can pull coins up that are within 2inches of play equipment (even when using the large coil) The sniper coil (4.5in), is a coaxial coil, which means that once you hit and hold the pinpoint button down, there is no signal given off above the coil. Using this, on my second time out with it, I was able to pull up a coin that was directly under metal play equipment, with the top of the coil in direct contact with that metal.
Oh and did I mention that it only weighs 1.2kg ( almost half the weight of the Explorer).
I'm looking to do the opposite of you, and save my pennies for an Explorer.
Good luck.
Mick Evans.

I own 2 Explorer II's and have purchased 2 Ace 250's as gifts for the wife and a nephew. The 250 is the best bang for the buck in its class. As a back up machine, you won't go wrong. Do not expect the performance of the Explorer, but for hunting coins, and general purpose detecting that would keep you going should your Explorer need repair or suffer some unexpected down time, I wouldn't hesitate. It will keep the fun flowing. I did have one occasion where I found a nickel with the Ace that didn't even whisper with the Explorer. I don't remember what my Exp. settings were at the time, so it could have been a programming error on my part, but it was surprising at the time.
