Anything that isn't been covered? Any suggestions for the next machine to be covered?
I mean some of us dealers need to be educated on some of the machines we're taking on trade for these new-fangled Explorers... Some of the Minelab purists haven't a clue how to ground balance ya know... <IMG SRC="/forums/images/biggrin.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=":D">

Because there are still alot of people who have The E and have not even had it outside as of yet.
As well as the problems that my crop up with more use.

Guv, the classroom is a great source of information for a lot of TH'ers. I'll bet for each post there are ten or more lurkers who follow the thread religously. If you decide to discontinue the classroom the subject will simply merge back into the FBS Forum.

I agree Guv. it would be real nice to have it stay up longer as the new exp owners can reap a world of knowledge from it. I check here on a daily basis and learn something on almost every visit.

How about a best of tips page that has the most Informative info and if it came from a question but the question that led up to it.Eliminate the non-info follow up & etc, like People thanking for the reply and such.But have it locked so no one could reply.Then if a new person finds this forum or fbs and is a new user and asks a question that has been answered a lot,we could refer them to the Tips or Faqs page(whatever you call it).But still keep this page open for new tricks or technics that come along and they could be moved over as required.Just an Idea.
 
you could put links to the fbs regulars tip pages like Jim's and Will's tip page and the other great pages,I have everyone bookmarked that I have ran across just can't remember without checking right now who's.
 
check this page everyday,an tho no xpert have occassionally responded if I thought it wud assist..Its kinda like big mikes.Thats where whatth is thitz questions belong instead of onfbs...I like it and think it helps all,,cant date these rimfire hulls charlie,,,cs
 
Ya, where is the guy that designed the Explorer?
Someone ought to give him the Nobel Prize.
Speaking of ground, if you turn on the detector in preset and give it a few sweeps and then adjust it to what you think are the optimum settings for the ground you are in VS turn on the detector and push noise cancel without moving the coil and make the adjustments you think are the best and then start detecting.....Does it matter?
Does it matter if you turn the detector on with the WOT on it and give it a few sweeps in preset, make your adjustments and do a noise cancel and then turn it off and change coils
to say the ML 8" and then turn it on in last used mode? Is the detector remembering the the WOT settings or is it adjusting itself to the new coil? Does the guy that built this thing reccomend going through the turn it on in preset and giving it a few sweeps every time we change coils? How about say at the beach with the same coil on does Minelab reccomend turning it on and giving it a few sweeps in the wet to work the wet and when changing to working the back beach turning it off, and then turning it back on and giving it a few sweeps and then proceeding? Obviously the mineralization it very different in the wet than on the back beach.
Also, does it matter if the ground is littered with trash when turning it on and giving it a few sweeps? The manual lacks an adequate explanation.
Also, I find that I have to push noise cancel several times and tinker with the channels to get off the electromag interferrence. Does that mean its time for a new coil?

Sort of a continuous electronic photographs of the soil conditions being constantly updated many times per second is how it was once explained to me.
You don't have to know about it and there isn't a reason in the world to go into ground balancing and other things you can't adjust anyway in the manual. I guess if you need to know about the technical aspects of the technology you'd be better off doing a patent search at the government site. They go into it a bit there.

Posing a similar barage of questions to a very respectable Minelab dealer I got the following answer.......
"Minelab
doesnt even really know or understand how the detector works".
But somewhere out there is a genius who does.
All detectors regardless of approch to ground are continuously reporting soil or a matrix condition many times per second.
Respectfully, of course.
 
But the difference seems to be how it handles the changing conditions. My understanding is it just treats the larger amounts of information as background and anything else as a suspected target without trying to filter out huge amounts just to be balancing. Just what I was told... I wish I could recall the exact conversation...

I always look at it. I know things have been repeated but we are getting older and repetition is good.
 
guvner, i think you should leave it up, but the only problem i see is that it is becoming a big chat room;i would assume the classroom was invented to teach people how to use the machine,noy all the small talk going onabout where they are going hunting , what they found,etc there is a lot of small talk ,i think this forub should stay as a LEARNING TOOL isnt that why it is called a classroom??????????
