Took my 1500 to a friends house to try it out. Got some hits as I moved the coil from left to right but as I returned back, right to left nothing. Is this what they call falseing or like my friend says somethings wrong with the machine. I taped the wire from the coil tight about 10 inches up the shaft but the bottom of the wire (1st wrap) is about 6 inches from the coil head could this be my problem or do I need to send it in any and all help will be more than welcome. Sorry this is so long but I'm not good at explaining.

That's quite common wilh all detectors. It could be a bottle cap, a piece of junk, a piece of tinfoil or a coin beside a bottle cap. Make sure your sensitivity is not too high, swing over the target as Uncle Willy says..north south east west and see if the signal changes. Also, stamp real hard on the ground over the target, and see if it changes too. Welcome to some of the quirks in metal detecting.

You just bought yourself a great performing D-tect. I am just about a half notch above a newbie, but I would say that you more than likely are into junk. You really need to spend some hours with your 1500 to know it better. A good detector will not give a repeatable signal if it is junk. This is in general, not a 100% all the time statement. That is what makes metal detecting so much fun, you have to use your head with the D-tect. I will get falsing and that too can be a signal that will not repeat. Make sure your sensitivity is not too high, you swing smooth without jerks, and avoid bumping the coil. This will cut some of the falsing down. In order for you to break yourself into the machine go after good solid repeatable signals, and when the target icon locks on, and don't jump around.
Once you get used to the easy gravy stuff, then you need to start digging other signals and targets just to see what the D-tect is telling you. I am sure you will get some good advice from these guys here.

A non-repeatable signal generally denotes junk or a bad target. If you hit a target such as this scan it both ways in case it's a coin on edge. As long as the six-inch section of your cable isn't flopping around it shouldn't present a problem. You need lots of practice with this machine so don't substitute inexperience for a faulty machine and don't listen to your friend. unless he is an experienced Garrett user . Read your manual more than once and watch the video if you have one. This forum will be your single best source of info so visit it often.

Bet when folks see John doing that they think he is throwing a tantrum.

-some grass, and when you get an iffy coin signal, give the ground a good kick over the target and you will see in most cases that the target either reads better as a coin....or it sometimes disappears. All you are doing is breaking up the matrix surrounding the target. But don't boot it so hard that the coin comes flying out of the ground!

Yeah I know about shaking the matrix up, I just figured you'd figured out an easier way to get them coins out of the ground. Maybe that's how you come up with so many.
