having used the Goldquest for over 12 mths ,whats the next upgrade for me please I wonder if there is a better unit out there now or coming ,thanks

I think you have pretty much the cutting edge of light weight beach PIs. The GQ SS V.2 may be a slight upgrade with a more accurate circuitry for determining the minimum delay of 10us and double D coil capability. If you want to burn bucks, you could get a Coiltek double D adapted to the GQ for a more stable machine with slightly less depth.
If you want spend even more moolah. Go get one of the Minelab SD or GP machines with auto ground balance, some discrimination and high voltage pulses to punch thru REALLY DEEP. However, I think this is like trying to kill a fly with a pound of C4 explosive. OVERKILL.
Note that the Minelabs are neither water nor splash proof, so are their coils.
The Garret Infinium is marketed as an auto ground balance unit and is waterproof. However, user reviews are few and far between. I think the jury is out on that one.
Lastly, stepping out of the PI category, how about a Minelab Excalibur. Deep and discriminating.
I personally will stick to PIs at the beach. I get my kicks from digging the deepies which no VLF has yet to equal (in my own experience).

Thanks for you informative reply, will stay put for now
kind regards John Moore
