Having to give up the hobby...

Why are you giving up this hobby for? It would be hard for me to give it up. Since starting detecting again, I've recovered a 2-cent piece, a silver dollar,shield nickels,2 seated quarters,seated dimes,loads of barber,loads of tokens,jewelery,and countless other artifacts. So, let me know why you are getting out of such a rewarding hobby.

First off, thanks to you and John LA for your posts and concern. I don't have any health problems that would prevent me from continuing this great hobby but my first love is golf, another very expensive hobby. I used to do a lot of detecting, mostly relics, about 28 years worth but got out of it for a short while. I live on the coast and love to beach hunt too but the beaches near me are continually being ruined for detecting by beach renourishment programs. I've just decided to give it up and focus on golf. And this after just ordering a new Excal, which I also have listed. Thanks again and good hunting to you both.

Hi Jerry, golly I sure hate to see you get out of such a great hobby. I can't get enough of this diggin in the dirt myself. I wish I could say something that would get you to change your mind Jerry. But we all have our priorities and I respect yours most definitely. So Jerry maybe you will come back down the road. Stay up on the hobby and enjoy your golfing sport. I know where you're both coming from. I am into astrophotography. There are some Friday's I come home after working all day and stay up to 4 or 5 a.m. Then, I get up at 8 or 9 a.m. and detect all day. If it's clear out on Saturday night I end up staying up till 4 or 5 a.m. again. Then go detecting all day Sunday... My wife says I am nuts for not sleeping and pushing myself so hard. But, the weekends are usually the only time I have to do anything so I make the most of it... You only live once and I'm going to make the most of it.... Good luck to you! I hope to hear your swinging the coil again at some point.

I know what you mean about pushing yourself to the limits. I've done it many times but when you start having little lapses in time and don't remember when your mind checked out or checked back in, well I guess you'd better get a little shut eye, lol. Seriously, overdoing it for too long can cause some problems. Give your mind and body a little time recover from life's stresses. It's important. Take care and thanks for your kind words.

Jerry, I have the same problem you have. I love golf and I'm a scratch player. I play Publinx Tournaments and I'm joining a Publinx team this year for matches in Michigan. So I understand your Passion for both, and the time constraints. I only have one piece of advice for you on the Putting green.

Keep it low.

and best of luck on the Publinx team. Afraid I'm not quite up to your level, I'm and 8, but I really love the game and down here it's great to be able to play all year.
