He found a ring in a store.........

A co-worker of mine came up to me at work the other day and said--"Hey Steve!!look what I found in a store"!!!!He pulled out a 14Kt.White gold ring-and YES-the BIGGEST stone in it I have EVER seen-Actually,1 big stone,and smaller ones on each side of it.......When I laid my eyes on it;I knew it was the real McCoy-just had that look......WELL,he just told me tonite he took it in,and had it tested---YEP-ITS THE REAL THING!!!!....HE SAID THE WOMAN SAID IT WAS BETWEEN 3/4 CARAT AND 1CARAT TOTAL WEIGHT-she cleaned it up for him,he showed it to me...That thing almost blinds you!!!he is doing the right thing;he is trying to find the owner of it-left his #with the store manager-he feels bad somebody lost it-BUT,I bet not as bad as the person who lost it-If I had to guess,I would say its worth $2,000-3,000.00-
i told him he was doing the right thing by trying to locate the owner---the problem is;there is no engraving in it.......:sad:

A friend of mine has eyeballed 2 gold rings so far on the floor of the ladies clothing section. One at WallyWorld and one at another place. He thinks that people lose them while trying on clothing.

A mans gold ring with 5 small diamond in the bathroom at a resteraunt on the sink. He must have taken it off to wash? I kept watch to see if anyone went in while we ate and no one ever did. I was going to give it to the young people behind the counter but I figured it would end up in one of their pockets!

I strongly suggest that he make anyone who tries to claim it give him a DETAILED description of it.

Let me give you an example. This is how I (as a Christian) handled a somewhat similar situation.

We know that Our Father rewards "service to others" ...and by that I mean "unselfish/non-self-benefitting" service to someone else. About 20 years ago I gave shelter (in my house) to an abused woman. One night, just before the local grocery-store closed (about 10:40 PM), she asked me to go get her some milk. (I had none in the house.) I drove hurriedly to the store and at 10:55 I pleaded to be let in the shut door to "just get a single item." That was the truth, and it worked ...a clerk let me in. I dashed to the back of the store, grabbed some milk ...and wound up being the last person in the checkout line, standing behind the only other customer left in the store.

Most of us here know how relic-hunters seem to notice what's on the ground much more often than the average person does. That night, I did. There on the floor of the checkout-lane just under the edge of the counter was a tightly folded piece of currency. I stooped and picked it up. It was a $100 bill.

After paying for the milk I ran after the guy who was the only other customer at that hour. I said "Sir, I found some money on the floor in the checkout-line. Are you missing any?" (NOTE THAT I DID NOT SAY HOW MUCH MONEY.)

He checked his wallet carefully - and said "No."
So I went home with a clean conscience ...and slept well.

But consider what probably would have happened if I'd told the guy, "Sir, I found a $100 bill behind you. Did you lose it?"

Please immediately tell your friend that whoever tries to claim the valuable ring MUST give him an accurately-detailed description of it, BEFORE they get to lay eyes on it. I mean they must describe details only its true owner would know - lest he hand it over to a con-artist.

Sometimes (most-often, actually) Our Father "compensates" us (for doing non-self-benefitting service to others) with something other than cash.

Yet I must note that back at the time of my story (20-something years ago), His $100 cash gift to me was particularly helpful. : )

I hope my story (and in particular, the part about how to deal with returning a lost valuable item) will also be helpful to the guy who found the ring in the store.
