Head Assy coming out of handle?

Beale

New member
OK so I bought the New 705. Have not even used it yet. I was taking the cover off to install a better one. My head just popped off of the handle. This is the 2ND or 3rd time this has happened. Never happened on the 70. Anybody else having issues with this?

Next question. Should I go ahead and send it back? Plenty of warranty left. Just wondering. Oh yea, I lost the screw to hold it in place, but never used it on the 70, Beale.

I have almost did that with my 70. Somebody said on here a while back that they make a cover with velcro to open and get to the batteries. I would like to have one of those.

My 705 doesn't fit as tightly as some of the other X-TERRAs. But I wonder if that is not by design for those who regularly break down their unit for transport and travel. I always mount mine "permanently" (page 6) mine for the reason you mentioned. If it were mine, I'd call them for a new screw or buy one at the local hardware store. I wouldn't take the time to send it in (under warranty) when all you need is that little screw. Even when attached "permanently", you can remove the screw if you ever want to completely disassemble the unit. JMHO HH Randy

I had the same problem with my X-70 when removing the environmental cover. The sat screw took care of that problem. Any small standard thread screw should work. Bad things can happen when shipping.

Speaking of environmental covers. A year or so ago someone made a post about a cover that was better than the one from Minelab. If these covers are still available would the person pleas re-post. I would be very interested. One of the problems I am having is getting dirt on the head and screen because my cover does not have a bottom. Well I used a piece of simulated leather upholstery material to make a bottom cover. It may not look to good but it sure works. HH TomB

PS I guess I should have added that I sewed the material to the front of the cover and used velcro to attach it to the back of the cover.

Tom, I can't post the name of the site that sells them. But if you do a google search for:

Thesaurus Control Box Cover for X-Terra

the site will come up for you. HH Randy

Thanks Randy and Beale....as always you guys came through. TomB

Did you screw the control panel into the handle? There is a little hole on the left side of the handle for a screw and screw cover.
