head phones hurt my ears after the first 6 hours or so

I've got some Sun Ray Pro Gold headphones and after swinging my SE for 5-6 hours, the weight isn't bothering me, getting up and down and digging a couple hundred holes doesn't tire me but my head phone cuffs (the part that goes around your ears) the ear muff part, scrunches up my ear almost like it is to small and I don't have big ears, so I don't understand why, but it really starts to hurt,I actually have had to stop detecting on several occasions because of the discomfort. anyone have a way of fixing that or a suggestion. It's really noticeable when I am wearing a winter hat. I've also have gotten sand or dirt inside them so that when I get a loud response they sound like maracas, which would be kind of be nice to fix.

Actually, I don't think it's the ear muff size that's the problem, I think it's because the cord going to the detector comes out of the left side of the ear phones, I'm right handed, so the cord has to cross my body and then go to the detector, and because of it's limited length, it's pulling on my left ear and folding it, that's the ear that feels the discomfort. So now are the questions, can you put a longer cord on those? And how do I get the dirt out of them? Afterwords, I'm going to glue some felt over the insides so it can't happen again.

I use them all the time when it's warm. I have a pair of Sun Ray Pro phones too but these are just SO comfortable and they only cost 10.00 a pair. They have an inline volume control and a shirt clip... what's not to like? I have friends who use ear buds but they irritate my ears. These RS phones are like they are not even there, they are so comfortable. At ten bucks a pair... how can you lose. Everyone need's an extra set of headphones in any case.

I know I'll have to get some like those before summer but what about the whole 150 ohms thing and sensitivity to faint signals and all that kind of jazz? Can you get away with using cheapo head phones?
