Headphones for Explorer-II

Well-known member
When I got my Explorer-II, I got the KOSS UR-30 headphones with it. Does anyones use these headphones or have you found a much better set? I find them with adequate comfort unless the summer temps soar towards triple digits, then I find myself checking the AC and fridge instead of detecting. They are ok for the cool weather I guess but would a purchase of a different set be a worthwhile move? Thanks for any input...

Having tried a few different sets my favorite is the Sunray Gold Pros. They are the most comfortable, and trouble free I have found. BUT everyone is different and you will see each has a favorite.

I have the Troy's and a set of Grey Ghosts. Both work well. I had a set of Jolly Rogers that were not quite as good for me.

if u ever hunt the surfzone, the detector pro "BLACKWIDOWS"

can not be beat in that zone

knock out all wave noise and wind noise when the breeze is up

Black Widow headphones were designed to accommodate the professional detectorist with special hearing requirements and for environments with high ambient noise levels. Large extended muffs are designed to block ambient noise to a higher degree for huntsites in proximity to urban traffic and surf roar. The Black Widow contains a dual mini-toggle switching system like our famous Gray Ghost Ultimate. One switch provides greater compatibility with detector audio systems and the other switch allows signal limitation when extreme volume is not required. Also provided are two independent volume controls for those detectorists with unequal hearing ability in each ear. You still get our "industry first" quality components, design and construction without compromise. Black Widows are "deadly", but guaranteed not to "Sting" you!
CAUTION: The significant volume output of the Black Widow compared to our main line of headphones requires us to warn the consumer of potential eardrum damage if detector signal is not regulated to tolerant levels. Without the limiting circuit engaged, we recommend starting with a minimal headphone volume control setting with detector volume at maximum, then gradually increase headphone volume controls as needed and tolerated

Greetings DirtRob,
The Koss headphones that came with my EX-II, I used for about a year. I won a pair of Sunray pro headphones at our club annual silver hunt. It seems to me that the Sunray headphones are not as loud as the Koss. The Sunray headphones are great phones though. I gave them to Krusty because he needed a set. Krusty swears by them, and said that he finds more now as when he was using his Whites set he had. Happy Hunting Grounds,

Savage (EX-II)

Will go get one in a day or so. I can't take it anymore reading all the positives which I really appreciate. I'll take some batteries and various targets so maybe I can do some air tests while at the mining shop. I'm to the point now that I must have one, or is it going to be one of those "I bet you can't have just one". Thanks for the inputs all...
