Headphones or earbuds?

This seems to be a question more people are asking. Im not that techno on the specs for various headphones, but i know i can tell a difference in the ones ive used. Each seem to have an advantage in certain conditions for me. Now comes the earbuds. It seems more people like them for obvious reason, they are light, you can hear things around you, the price, and with all the new electronic device they are getting better and better. Im wondering .... are the big bulky headphones going to be the next great improvement for detectors. Ive seen some on the net already toting a hefty $80 price tag with claims of unbeatable sounds. We made the jump to pro coils could it be with improved processors there could be a leap with these new buds? Im all for the buds.... well except in the winter when those big ole phones sure keep the ears warm.

I want a pair of buds for detecting, and I really just want them in one ear. Its aweful hot in Texas with big phones on, and Im always afraid someones gonna sneak up behind me in the woods. Bad stuff.
 
That I have had is finding a bud that fits my ear canal . Then I bump the cord, and the bud comes flying out of my ear! After a few outings the flimsy cord was shot. Its a great Idea in summer if you find a pair that fits you.
 
I can't speak for the "too hot" aspect of this question (for those that are in very hot, or very humid environments), but just in general, I think the full-cup headhones are the only way to go. Those "walkman" style of headhones, and now earbuds, just seem to allow too much outside noises. I know some people think it's better to hear outside noises better (so if someone walks up to you, or whatever), but I find that my best concentration is when I hear less of the outside, and can concentrate fully on the detector. JMHO.
 
lol I know, Im just afraid of getting clobbered on the head with a rock by one of these homeless guys that live in the wooded areas around Houston where I hunt.
