Headphones will not work.

Ed Smeltser

New member
Just bought a used x-terra 70 . When I pug headphones in there is no sound the headphone icon appears on screen. Is there something I need to know or is it just defective. Thank You.

The X-TERRA series saves separate volume adjustments for the speaker and the use of headphones. You set the level for the speaker with headphones NOT plugged in. You set the level for use with headphones WITH the headphones plugged in. If the speaker is working correctly, and the headphones are not, that is the first thing I would check, since you just bought it. If that don't work, it could be the headphones or the headphone jack. But before we get into that, let us know if it works when you set the volume with your headphones plugged in. HH Randy

Thank you for the reply. I should have stated in first message that I had already tried setting volume with headphones in, no sound. I should also state that headphones work fine in other detectors. Thank You.

Mono or stereo jack?
I've heard of some issues with running the wrong one, but I know that a stereo jack works just fine.

Thank you for the reply Old Longhair. Well mystery solved I have Sun Ray Pro headphones they have a toggle switch, I flipped it I now have sound. Whether I am in mono or stereo I do not know but I have sound. Thank You again.

Excellent Ed! Glad that you got it worked out.
Now go enjoy your great new machine!

Ed, you are in stereo with the Xterra.

I bought a set of Sun Ray Pro headphones a few weeks ago and I had the same problem the first time I used them and they didn't work until I flipped the switch to stereo and then they worked just fine.
