I have a set of Gerrett headphones that came with the detector, I want to know what would be a good set to replace them with. Also why is it that when I pinpoint a target the volume goes thru the roof but when a target rings it is at much lower noise level?

Do you perhaps have your overall volume set too high? If its a more modern Garrett detector, deep signals will be as loud as shallow ones, so you can cut your volume back considerably without missing any targets. The headset that came with the unit should be fine, unless its an issue of preferring a lighter set of headphones. In that case, a Koss or Radio Shack set should be fine. Just make sure you get a volume control with the headset, if your Garrett machine doesn't have one built in. Hope this helps! <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">

I also experience that the volume when pinpointing is much higher than the pinpointed target produced when detected. I use the GTI1500.
