Heads Up for future GT Owners

I just got word this morning that starting on January 17th the MAP Price for the Sovereign GT will go up $200.00 to $999.00. If you were planning on getting a GT in the near future you might want to get it before the middle of January. I will still always honor the package deal I have had on the GT.

Indian Nations Detectors

Chuck any word if they are changing just the price or is the GT getting revamped? Thats a pretty stiff increase.

Thank you,
Neil

I see no reason to raise the price this much. I am glad I bought my GT when I did, if this is true!!

The value of used Sovereign GT's will go up with it ... so one bought now will hold a good used value for a few years.

Decent detector but I just dont know if it is in the $1000 bracket.
Wonder if there will be a price increase across the entire Minelab product line.

Sounds like now is the time to buy a new one.

Willee,

Understood, but if one has no intention of selling a used GT, of what use is a value increase?

Wow, I wonder what that means? I feel now that it's unlikely that Minelab will stop making the GT, because it wouldn't make any sense to raise the price of a machine you plan to stop making soon to me. What would make more sense is probable increases in the price of the SE or Etrac, because if they kept the GT at it's current price and raised those it might hurt their sales for the SE/Etrac. Or, perhaps the new price reflects the new selling price for a new Sovereign that is coming down the road. Again, if the GT stock still present was $200 cheaper then it might hurt initial sales of the new unit until all the new GTs were sold off. Can anybody else think of a circumstance when a soon to be discontinued product was increased in price by the manufacturer?

Like somebody said, if it's true then it means our used Sovereigns should hold the price we paid for them or even go up in price. More leverage for those wanting to try an Etrac and such.

Looking at the whole picture the Sovereign is a great detector as we are seeing and even the older used Sovereigns I notice the price has been going up compared to the last couple of years so I feel Minelab will keep making this detector. Now with this said we have seen many post of what some feel needs to be changed and wondering if maybe a new redesigned Sovereign will be coming out a little later on. The GT has been out for a while with no changes and due to be changed I feel, but this is just my opinion. I feel they are not saying anything to the dealers yet as every time something is new coming out and is to be kept quiet it seems to leak out by one of the dealers and wind up on the Forums so no one buy any detectors waiting for the new one to come out so some dealers get stuck with older models in stock and find it harder to sell. Now with the $200 increase in the GT I feel it is all possible a new one is coming out and wanting those seriously thinking on a GT to buy one before the price increase so the dealers sell out what they have in inventory before a new model come out.
Like i say this is just my opinion and with no info on a new Sovereign or this is what Minelab is doing, but will say the GT is one great detector the way it is and the favorite of many as we see any used GT on the classified are sold fast.

The price increase is absolutely true. I got the same email like any other Minelab dealers this morning. No mention of any changes to be made by Minelab, were conveyed in Gary's email to me. You should buy now if you want to save money. Merry Christmas to all.

John,

Does the price increase only apply to the GT or other detectors by Minelab?

The GT is a proven detector, Beach hunting, coinshooting, and relic hunting....New pricing as of January 17th

Item Number
Current MAP Current MSRP
3209-0104 GT
$799.00 $995.00

New MAP New MSRP
3209-0104 GT
$999.00 $1,199.99

Minelab is an Australian company and the Australian dollar is now at parity with the US dollar where 12 months ago it was only worth 68 cents US.
Could this be the answer ?

The movement in the Australian dollar has caused most Australian exports, including coal and iron ore to rise dramatically in price. Exporters are doing it tough. Imports are very cheap here now. Watch inflation take off in Australia if the Aussie dollar remains high.

I love the Sovereign. I have two of them A GT and Elite. But if you give me a choice between the GT and an SE Pro I'm taking the Explorer. Minelab better have a new design with the price or watch a very good detector model sit and rot on their shelves. My opinion.

When I purchased my Minelab Musketeer pro in 2007, the price was $499.
Shortly after I made the purchase, the price went up to $567 and then sometime later the price went up
to $698. Sometime this year the Musketeer series was discontinued by Minelab.
I believe when the price went up to $698, this was shortly after it was anounced that Minelab was bought out by
another company.
I have read that the reason for the stop in production was due to poor sales in the U.S.
This is one circumstance I can think of.

I own two GT's but IMHO it's awful hard to justify this much of an increase without some signifigant upgrades involved. That AT Pro is looking like a much better deal at this point. Maybe Minelab has something up their sleeve. I guess we'll see.

Exactly my thinking. The At Pro might not be the detector that the Sovereign is when it comes to beach hunting. But it set the bar as far as what people feel is a good price. For 200.00 more I want Water Proof!
