Hello,

Been awhile since I have posted anything but have a question?? Does anyone where hearing aids on the forums?? I have been fitted for nu ear rapsody hearing aids due to major hi freq. loss, more so in my right ear than left!! And was wondring if this will hinder me or help me hear what I have been missing?? I couldnt believe the difference when he used a computer to bring my hearing where it should have been (Unbelievable) I didnt even sound like myself LOL!! And I was hearing stuff I didnt even know was there!! When he unhooked me all I could hear was more or less everything in a base tone like before. I just need answeres to the detecting with them question cause I am spend almost 5,000.00 on the aids. They are also modifying the whole for my freq loss otherwise they will be of no use to me for the issues I have.

I have the same high frequency hearing loss. I wear hearing aids, but take them out for metal detecting because I get feed-back. My SE screams so loudly when I hit silver, I don't think that I miss any goodies.
 
Hey guys; First I have had hearing loss for years and hearing aids for a while. Using headphones if you have digital hearing aids you should have no problems. If they are set to hi and squeel then you should have three or four positions to the hearing aid and if you push once for the second program you should compress enough to be in wonderful shape. Taking them out or turning them off for metal detecting when you have hi pitch loss as I do would be defeating the purpose since silver is hi pitch.
On the hearing aids and how you sound. I have two sets a behind the ear with a tube and an in the ear set and the behind the ear with tubes type you sound more like yourself I think. With the in the ear I cant stand to even talk to myself, nothing sounds quite rite, I think its the lack of sound geting to vent back out as in real hearing but I work on guns not ears so ?? But they say you get more loss back with in the ear than behind and my loss needs them.

The in the ear aids are not as powerful enough for my hearing loss so I have to use the behind the ear aids according to my audiologist and with this being the case even with custom made ear molds I do get feedback if I try to use headphones without taking my aids out. I had thought about getting a set of in the ear aids and try using them with headphones to see if it will help or not, but those i have talk to that tried this say they don't work too good with headphones.
Sometimes it is funny when I had my amp on the Explorer as James would tell me he heard my Explorer 20 feet away while I am wearing my headphones.
Now I use the Troy Pros headphones so I don't need the amp as these are the loudest for the Explorer I have ever used and I have tried them all, so those that are very hard of hearing and use a Explorer i would recommend the Troy Pros.
 
Mine are very small and behind the ear so I have to take them out to use my head phones. I use Killer Bees and like them a lot.
The Troy phones have come up a lot lately in these posts and am wondering about them.
If I'm hunting in the woods or an area where there is no wind or other noises to distract, I sometimes hunt with just the Aids and do OK.
So you see, we are a growing group. Also my hearing is so bad that I can turn my aids off hen SOMEONE talks to loud and I can just nod "Yes Dear."
 
Sometimes I use my hearing aids when I detect and some times I don't. My Sun-Ray Pro headphones are great in either case. I am afraid of losing my hearing aids in the field when I take my headphones on and off, so I am careful. What I did do early on in my detecting life was to decide I could not use a machine that was sound only. I MUST USE A DETECTOR WITH A GOOD SCREEN ! I like to detect for gold and I initially had a Fisher Gold Bug 2 and a Minelab GP Extreme. Both were very good machines but I had to ditch them because they were sound only. I now have a Whites MXT and a Minelab SE with great screens. Because I have the frequency losses you all are talking about I pretty much use sound only to alert me of a target...then I use the screen to ID it

Plugs right in the headphone jack and lights up to your signal. Even shows a dimmer light on week or deep signals.

I saw your post on the light that plugs into the headphone jack, where can I get one of those. If I need to build it myself I would like to know where you got the bulb.

Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated.

I am not hearing impaired. I use a detector pro uniprobe and thought the light would be better than the speaker(it makes a lot of noise and attracts unwanted attention). I saw your post and thought the plug in would work great if I new were to get the light, the rest would be easy enough to put together. A member of our club had something similar that was made by a company called night owl or the device was called a night owl, but I think they are out of business because they no longer advertise on e-bay. So far I am not having much luck making my own or finding one I can purchase.

Sometimes I joke to a guy at work. I will be talking to him and he'll be going umm,yeah,umm, yeah. I go,"Les, change the hearing aids out of marriage mode" heehee.

Before he got them he was really bad and when he got them I said,"Les, why did you get them? Now you have to listen to your wife now!" "That wasn't too swift"
