has happened because of the Views Forum, so I have a question for whoever wants to answer, which may have been asked before but long ago? Please tell us about your unusal time or times of :detecting: and about some of the funny ones! I know we all have had them while out wingin' and diggin' in the dirt!

I will begin by saying that I was detecting and trying to dig a hole in one of the parks Northwest of where I live and a small dog would keep lying down where I wanted to dig and wanting me to play with him or her! It wouldn't leave so finally I picked it up, kissed it on the nose and said get home and it finally left! Don't remember what I dug up, but that little dog was a riot! That is one good memory I have about detecting and the joy of talking to different people about my detecting for coins and relics along with smiles and letting them feel good and maybe they went out and bought a detector for themselves, who knows! Another time was when I was a mess from digging most of the day in hot weather covered with sweat and dirt, a group of highschool boys were taking videos for a school project and wanted to talk to me while videoing and they did, but I was rather ashamed of how I looked for a video pic....don't know if they ever showed it in class or didn't but another experience to remember!  Ma Betty

My buddy Steve(Indy), Sam James and I were detecting where an old school used to be. It happened to be the pasture for a couple of horses.
Once when Steve set his detector down to dig a hole one of the horses starts to sniff around it curiously.
Then he starts licking and chewing on the arm strap of the detector, I guess he liked the
way Steve smelled. Not sure what he was trying to do next, maybe rip the arm strap off so
he could run off with it, but he had it in his mouth flailing the detector around in the air
like crazy. When we finally got over to it to try to stop the destruction he let loose of it and it
banged down on the ground.
Apparently White's machines are made to withstand the meanest of animals because it
worked fine after that with just a few teeth marks in the cuff.

Gee... and here I thought you started it because they just didn't like your music LOL Guess it's time to dust off the old sandals and go to another town...

Regarding the people that get SO offended by discussing anything about Jesus:

There was a woman in my church many years ago (originally from Texas) that had an "interesting" point of view on the subject.

She said, "Joe, if you throw a rock into a pack of dogs, the one that yelps the loudest is the one that got hit..." :)

It also involves a dog...

Picture this: I was in a park, on my knees and bending over a hole I just dug. A rather large Doberman (off the leash) decided that the best way to "investigate" what I was doing was to run up from behind at full speed and shove his head between my legs.

It was not particularly amusing at the time. :) Scared the living daylights out of me. :yikes:

I'll have to think about this one, Ma, and get back to you later.

I have a kinda funny one. Last winter I was relic hunting in this field and I started hearing a barred owl really loud. I thought man I have never heard one of those in the day time. It kept hooting and I stood there in a daze trying to figure out where it was as I was about 700 yards from any woods. Then I realized it was my cell phone. I have multiple animal and bird sounds set as ring tones and they change everytime someone different calls me. The barred owl tone was the one ringing. I felt pretty stupid.

Travis, that sounds EXACTLY like something I would do!!! So glad it's not just me... lol

Different story . Last winter in the same field , first time I hunted it I saw all these cows in this field. That did not bother me as I have owned cows and hunted in fields with them before. What a bunch of wild ones these were. They all stood there staring at me from a few hundred yards off so I crossed the fence and started walking into the field watching them the whole time. While I was setting up my detector I noticed some of the cows walking kinda of fast towards me. I started detecting while watching them , good thing I was. They all started running full speed towards me. So I started walking towards the fence but I was quite aways away from it by then. They all started trying to get me and a few almost did . Most cows stop acting like this after a few minutes not these. I started looking for my closest escape route. I took off running and slid under a fence at a run and one or two of them about hit the fence that is how fast they were running. They all stood there watching me. Then I thought now what. I detected for about twenty minutes and by then I noticed the cows had left and went to the other end of the field. So I thought I am as crazy as they are I am going back in that field and detect. So nervously I crossed the fence and started dectecting , then I noticed a few of them watching me again, great I thought here we go again. Then the two wilder ones started walking my way. I kept detecting and they cmae within 20 yards from me and followed me for about an hour while I was detecting. I guess they figured out I was okay as they have never gave me a problem since.

Awwww... they only wanted to see what kind of detector you had and what you might dig up on their turf! If you found something good, they were gonna demand you give it to them... just like some land owners would do!

Hi Travis that would make me more than nevous and I have an idea that they were watching to see if you and your detector would do them harm...so first time they were too nervous for you to remain in the field and then when they saw that you were doing your own thing like they were, so the second time in their field they just said, Oh well, he is brave enough to come back so let him stay but I wouldn't have gone back in there! One time my friend Ginny and I were detecting in a field where cattle were and we kept a watch on them in case of a bad bull and stayed close to the fence so we could get out fast, hopefully!  Ma Betty

Sounds something like I would do, but didn't have a cell phone when I was detecting! I have my brother's (put into my name) and it chirps and most people when they hear it they comment that they never heard one ring like that before!  Ma Betty

one dog in an area with his master using a riding mower while I was detecting some ball fields and he kept barking in a growling way and I was nervous and kept my eye on him or her as much as I could, although the dog never came really close to me! I think the man was from the house near the ball fields of the American Legions Hall (I had permission) and the dog was protecting its territory! I got very nervous and couldn't put my mind on detecting that well because of unfriendly animals!  Ma Betty

Thanks Neat and that is a funny one, also, I have never heard one about a horse messing with detectors and spoiling the day but all was well that ended well with no damage to the White's Detector, which I have always used myself! I've had to send a couple back for repairs though but not because of a horse or my dropping one!  Ma Betty

Hi Joe, apparently I didn't please a few on the Views nor did Neal or Ron.....Neal and I were banned from the Views and Ron has been banned from all the Find Mall Forums! Ya see if you do good and don't curse they kick you off while the worst ones can still post on all forums! Go figure....they to are like the world and don't want to read Who Jesus is or what He does...they say they can get to heaven without Him! Well, I don't think so and we will see when we get there or they truly get saved! Amen! Bad Ma Betty!

 And we threw them Jesus the Rock and WOW did some of them yell and got really mean and nasty about it and ya could say they turned and ied biting us enough to get us thrown off from posting on their religious and political forum, but with Jesus on our side it doesn't matter for me anyway, as I did my witnessing and God will do the rest! Amen! Ma Betty

I think Steve was just horsing around!
