I'm looking for an 8 inch tornado coil, or an 8 inch SunRay, or a 10 inch Tornado myself. I've got some Sovereign stuff to trade, a concentric coil and a 180 meter, among other machines as well.

I have a Fisher 1280x, without the upper poles, an older Tesoro silver sabre with a 7 inch solid round coil, and some stainless cuffs. I placed a WTT ad here but have not had any questions about anything.

The Sovereigns are a great detector, but does take patience to learn this detector, but when you do learn it you will see what many that didn't give up on it is really doing great. I have tried all the different Sovereigns and the first one which was the original Sovereign I didn't like after using the Sovereign XS and had the best coil to learn the Sovereign and was not waterproof the XS2 went to a waterproof coil and the drop in battery pack, then came the XS2a which a switch was added to turn off the tones, so to me that defeated the real purpose of the Sovereign tone ID for us coin hunters. Then the Elite came out and I didn't keep it very long as the volume was too low for me with the bad hearing, plus it didn't seem to have the depth of my XS. Got the GT next and this one was a bit different, but really like it once I got used to it, didn't think I would like I could turn the tones off, but seen in some cases it works great. I also notice it is a bit more sensitive as it false a little on iron, but when you check the signals from a different direction you can tell the difference on the deeper target. It just takes a little bit longer to check out the deeper signals. Coil wise the 8 inch coin search seem to have a longer signal and easier to learn the Sovereign while the others like the Sun-ray S8 coil was great in trashy area as the tones were faster so a coin next to iron was eastly detected.
Now the Sovereigns are slower swinging speed to give the detector time to see and analyze what it sees. Sovereign in disc hate iron and you will tell how the tones sound as they will be broken up and not repeating in the same spot. To me the 180 Meter is the way to go for coin hunting as those numbers really ID those close # of the target.
Tried all the different Sovereigns and my GT and my XS with the 180 meters is what I kept, tried other Minelabs and moved on, but did like the E-Trac because I could get the same tones as my Sovereign under pitch hold on the E-Trac as it gives me a longer tone so me with the bad hearing can hear them.
Been detecting since 1974 and using the Sovereigns since 1996.

PM me.
I'm interested in the 180 meter.
I presently have the 500 or 550.
Not sure which it's called.

Loving my GT series Sovereign.
Haven't tried the others.
Moved from the Explorer xs to the GT..
It's truly an incredible machine.
Search on the net. Maybe you'll get lucky..
Though most who have learned it.
Will be the last machine they'll sell if they can still swing it.
It's only Bain is it's weight.
Though hip, chest or bagging it makes it much more comfortable.
I put mine in an old blue purse of my wife's.
Sling it over my shoulder.
Only swing the coil, meter and shaft.
Much lighter.

Search Sovereign here on the forum.
Great deal of info here.
And knowledge from a bunch of great and skilled guys like Rick MD and others.
When you find one.

If you're new to detecting.
And for me it's good practice.
Hit a good pawnshop.
Buy silver and copper coins you hope to find.
Dimes, quarters, dollar's, wheaties, large cents, Indian heads, excreta.
And any jewelry you and family have.
One at a time or separated by a few ft.
Scan them. Learn the tones and if you have a 180 meter on it the ID numbers as well.
Take notes in a pocket note pad.
Put rusty nails next to, over and under the target's. Learn the subtle changes that they say.
Dig me anyway.
I carrying them with me.
I do this on any new site looking for differences caused by different conditions at new sites.
The Sovereign is Special.
A true killer on silver.
When it sees nails and average iron.
(Big iron foils most any machine)
In the discrimination mode
Knob turned fully left
It nulls. Sounds blank out.
In that mode it's cancelling the iron.
It also Will see any good tones in the null.
Keep swinging over and around the target.
Especially silver.
Few machines even today can do that with clarity.
Many of us old guys are fading away.
Leaving these incredible machines behind.
And their descendants will usually happily part with them for a good price.
Having their relative trying to get them interested and they just couldn't click with the passion of our hobby.
The addiction.
Be patient. You'll find one.
Though I would only pursue those Rick mentioned.
Also be aware many could possibly be modded.
Ask.
Usually nobody messed with the GT series.
Many of the previous models could have been modded.
ASK. Or try it in person.
Read about it. Learn the difference.
Good Luck.
Love to hear how things work out for you.

I will be listing an original Sovereign when I get time. The owners manual is dated 1996 and it has the Sovereign meter on it. It does work but the battery is swollen.
