:help: Advice on the FeO2 meter

New member
I've had my T2 for about 3 months now and love the way it works. A lot of my understanding has come from reading the outstanding posts on this forum and then applying the great shared wisdom in the field. I have not focused much on the FeO2 meter but I am going out with some friends to check out several Civil War sites the end of this week and I would really appreciate any advice/help on how best to use or apply this meter in my hunting? Thank you all in advance..

The Fe02 meter only applies in the disc mode. So all metal don't worry about it. If your in a spot where you know there are spots of mineralization like black sand. By keeping your eye on the meter. A spike or even a noticable increase in the meter reading means another ground balance is in order to get maximum depth and an accurate ID. I usually ground balance every 20 minutes as a rule of thumb. Just to be sure I am getting max performance from my machine. I do notice a reground balance does breath some new life into it when at times the finds start to fall off in a particular spot that has produced.

Seems like even a small GB adjustment can make a huge difference in the signal you are hearing.

Jeff, Thank you very much. This is a big help and I appreciate you taking the time to answer. I've followed your posts in this forum for the past few months, you have consistently offered great advice and accurate helpful hints. I for one am grateful and thank you for sharing your expertise.

From reading the manual it says that areas that have had fires will show a higher reading. I that case if you are in and area with
cw activity you maybe able to find fire pits. It will also show higher concentration of iron and black dirt if you are prospecting. I haven't really paid that much attention to the readings but will start to investigate it more and more to try to relay understand what it is saying. You really have to understand the machine and what it is telling you to really get the most out of it.
The Fe02 meter only applies in the disc mode. So all metal don't worry about it......
The Fe changes in ground mineralisation affect ALL aspects of a detector, (Motion and Non-motion} but are more 'apparent' in the 'non motion' modes......

The Fe meter only warns of the soil's magnetic component variations, whilst the Ground Phase reading tells us more about the 'total' combined effect of magnetic and conductive changes.......MattR.UK.

Matt,

Ground phase readings by themselves give no useful information about soil conditions and how it will effect a detector. For those that have some knowledge of the relative amounts of magnetic and conductive levels generally found in their area it can be useful. But, as a guide to soil types the ground phase reading can be very misleading.
